Default Crane Valve spring compressor

Does anyone know the maximum height and pressure this tool can compress? The springs I have uncompressed are over 2.5" tall which makes it a little difficult to compress using something like Tims/Larrys tool and still keep it aligned with the valve stem. Would really rather not have to take the heads off just to do springs. Any help would be appershitateded.

Just talked to Crane. They say the stud is right at 2.5" long so some allthread would have to be used. Just ordered some chromoly allthread from nutty.com so I'll give that a whirl on the tims/larrys tool I have and see if that works.

Heads were off not too many miles ago. Lifters, rockers, guides and seats were all checked. No reason to do it again.

I'd worry about the washer setup holding up on the tim's tool with the spring pressure you're at.

Grade 8 washers and nuts are going to be used and everything will be coated in 30w oil. Will be wearing eye protection.

I think you can reach all but the back 2 holes with lsm tool.

I made something similar for the handle but it was cut short and bent and I could put a breaker bar in it. springs were 280 on the seat it worked fine

It worked. I had safety glasses on just in case it decided to pop. Was a little leary since quite a bit of material had to be removed in order to get it to fit between the springs and two springs combined it's compressing close to a thousand lbs. Also used a longer allthread (has been cut down to size). Was able to do all but 6 and 8 before running out of time. Will hopefully have this turd running the weekend after this one.
Nice headers you say? Yeah, they're 15 years old and have been exposed to more road salt than I'd care to remember. Anymore it's function over form...

It's making a noise it hasn't produced in about 10 or more months.

Car is back. High RPM miss that has been around a long time is now gone, at least for now. Changed both opti and springs. Springs I don't think really needed changing, but it was done anyway. I only noticed the RPM problems after the rotor backed out of the opti. Even after a new cap and rotor were used it would still miss. Also fixed an oil leak from these crap wire looms:

They use their own bolt to clamp the valvecover down and in doing so the valve covers leaked badly.
Switched to these (thanks to that speed_demon24 dick):

And the garage floor is bone dry.
Also fixed a bad harmonic vibration issue with the chassis mount T/A. There is a 1/16" piece of rubber that goes between the tunnel brace/mount and chassis which doesn't absorb a whole lot of anything. Found a gym mat, doubled it up and it's a night and day difference now. Only downside is the tunnel brace is now about 3/8" lower than it was before, which is a bit of a big deal on a lowered car especially close to center of the chassis. Whatever, better than what it was before.
