Default LT1 + Autocross

Hey, just thought I'd share my thoughts on autocrossing my LT1.

The car handled amazingly, one part of the course I understeered a bit but I think it can be fixed by softening my front shocks.

The LT1 itself was way more than what was needed for this course and it was a fast one. I was 50%-75% throttle through the whole course. The engine held up great and the car did better than I or most people there expected I think.

Anyone thinking of trying autocross I highly recommend it! It's addictive and alot of fun!

Ill post my go pro video later.

yah man give it a try! your car will probably do better than you think. I was worried about taking my car to the limit like this as well but once i made a full pass I was very reassured, no strange noises or anything it was comfortable and predictable at the limit!

Car sounds great man! You definitely need better seats. My car is pretty much setup for auto cross. It needs afew tweaks but nothing major. I like how yours is a hardtop. I sometimes wish mine was sometimes.

It's a lot of fun. Most important thing for a F-body is to get some decent tires under it.

yeah man for sure, I wanted to stay in the street tire class for my first year. I got arguably one of the best street tires for autocross though and man are they awesome! Kumho Escta XS tires. tons of grip but I am already on the look for some track rims to throw R comps on for next year lol.

oh and brakes, Lt1 brakes blow ***, I got EBC vented rotors and green stuff pads which basically bandaid what needs medical attention lol.

C5 z06 brake kit is gunna be my next big upgrade, it will bump me to ESP class but I want to get R comps anyway so atleast ill be somewhat competitive car wise if not skill wise lol

i auto-x my '94 formula. my car is pretty much stock performance wise, just has bilsteins/stranos suspension and founders LCAs and panhard bar. i'm currently running 18x9/10s with 275 togo RA1s but am trying to sell those for something else. the cars are a blast on the corse, even at low power levels.

and yes, stock brakes suck! i will soon be going with a C5Z setup as well.

C5 Z06 Brakes are Great! I have those on my car and they are great. Good rotors (napa premiums) and hawk pads. I run a proportioning valve to make some fine adjustments and no ABS. I dont plan on upgrading my brakes but if I ever do itll certainly be to CTS-V brakes.

Awesome! Glad to hear you like the c5 setup! I wanta stay with 17's so they are about the best bang for the buck in that wheel size, the CTSV brakes are suppose to be awesome, but require 18's atleast I think lol

Not of any use I'm afraid, but. There is a guy in the St. Louis area that has an LT1 powered Buick Roadmaster wagon that he road races it. I think he said it's 393 inches and around 700 HP, has all kinds of mods and it's a six speed manual. Has a home made fiberglass hood and last I saw it he was building fiberglass doors and roof for it. Quite a nice ride.

Maybe someone here knows him? He drives it on the street and lives in Kirkwood.

The need for speed is definitely addictive and a ton of fun. But it is a slippery slope.

Street tire autox leads to this:

Which leads to this:

Which can lead to this:

It is all fun though, no matter how slippery the slope to faster and faster.
