i know what your problem is, it just happens to be your car. get rid of your LTslow and by either a ls1 or a 99+ GT or better yet step up to a new cobra
omg that is the most ignorant comment ever, i realize that further in the thread u said u were joking, but honestly, even the new gt's can barely pull on a lt1...you have no sense of machanics

Carquest had an AIT in stock for 13.95. I bought it and hey that was easy.. looks like it's working.. in fact it just sits there lol but I suppose it's new so it should be working like the used one I took off since there is no change in performance or anything. 0-15 = ok 15 and up or holding a speed = sputter & surging for 10 or so seconds.. running fine for a few seconds.. sputtering.. etc.. But it does seem like if I hold speed for a while.. keep holding it, it eventually doesn't do the sputtering so bad.. still seems like a heat realated issue since when it's cold it runs real strong.

Off to AutoZone to get my 160 stats! Project for the weekend I'm thinking.. Maight wait to fool with it when I get a new water pump.. the Opti-Spark was 187 freaking dollars.. It'll take me a moth to save for that.. Still though seems like the tech shop would have told me something was wrong with it.. they gave me a clean bill of health for the LT.. What am I missing here? Surely this has happened to someone elses 97TA and they know what it is.

Also to the 'thread-jacker' My car is absoloutly NOT the fastest.. HOWEVER it's beaten every mustang I've raced.. hands down.. so.. go suck on your own tail pipe.. sheezz.. a mustang ROFL..

Raced some rice too, the new subarus and that hot taurus.. there headlights look good in my rear view too..

(now tell me how you have a 40,000HP mustang to race me with I really need a laugh)

Throw that t-stat in tonight! It doesnt take very long at all. All you need is a flat head screwdriver, a 7mm socket, a ratchet, and some rags. Take your intake elbow off and there is the little monster. Be sure not to get the opti (which is located right behind the waterpump) wet or you might have to buy a new one anyways. Thats where the rags come in handy. Out with the old and in with the new, put it back together and enjoy your cooler running motor.

My water pump just blew out.. made the nasty'iest sound right there in traffic then whoop! then goes temp gague.. got her shut down and never went past 210 so I think my heads are safe.. so.. it's towed to my brothers house..

No one has an electric pump for it that I can find within 60 miles.. not even in Indianapolis so I'm going to have to put a mechanical one back on since it's my driver.

My question is this: I visited my tech shop again (Sparks) and talked to them about my Opti and he said if it was flaky they would have found it. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.. when my pump went it dumped all the fluid right on my Opti.. is this bad? Where can I get one from ony Pontiac or is a parts store brand as good/better..

argh..

I'd bet that there's a 95% chance that your opti is bad as well.

If your water pump leaked out all over your opti, that is bad news. If at all possible, I'd replace the opti when you do the water pump. Do some research on www.camaroz28.com in their LT1 forum and whatnot to find some info on electric waterpumps. An electric water pump would be a worthwhile mod if you have the cash.

If you can get the opti and water pump replaced you should be good to go. Also, you might want to throw some new plugs and wires in there as well.

Good luck!

I hitched a ride to the A1-Speed shop here in town and pickedup a Meizer(sp?) electric water pump.. He said it would be infinitely better and I would have noticible power back from the cam driven pump.. ok great but it was almost 300 shipped next day saturday delivery ARGH!!

Bough an Opti from Pontiac.. They evidently sent someone 70 miles to get it for me TODAY.. it's sitting beside me in a box.. come tomorrow.. new pump, opti and 160* stat..

I would put one of them fan switches for my car but haven't really figured why I would need to.. car should run cooler with the lower stat I think. Tried to buy a Tuner CAt but they said the OBDII programs won't be available until July.. yay..

My brother told me if you red line your temp gague, whatever that temp may be, you risk popping a head gasket or worse (he had a 3.5 minute speech so add infinite item).

OMG pontiac sells the opti for like $500, Jason Cromer will send you one for like $250 in a few days.

P.S. The only thing you have to worry about with higher temps is the risk of detonation. There are other things but thats at the extreme temps.
