Default changed plugs/wires... now CEL

Hey guys.

On sunday my buddy and I changed 4 of the 8 spark plugs and wires in my car, we stopped because It began to rain pretty hard. I used the Champion platinum power 3013's, gapped at .056 (was told that the gap would decrease over time, was I told wrong?) and used Summit racing brand 8.5 mm street n strip wires.

I triple checked the wire's were put on the opti in the right order.

Now, my friend did somehow knock off my oil pressure sensor (the big plug thingy above the oil filter.) I drove 40+ miles with it off, and all it did was make my oil pressure gauge read funny.

Today as I started my car after school, there was no CEL. Sitting at a stoplight, I saw it kick on.

Would the other half of the motor having older/crappy plugs and wires cause it to throw the light? Or maybe the the oil pressure sensor? Maybe too big a gap on the newer, hotter sparking plugs?

Please, I hate CEL's more than a snowman taking a vaykay in hell, and I'd like to sort this out ASAP.

EDIT: also, my left turn signal wont work right. the arrow lights up green, but doesn't click on and off as it should. Related problem?

Not really familiar with those plugs, but why gap them larger than the stock gap of .050"? If anything, people tend to gap them smaller. The bigger the gap, the more power needed to spark across it. Gap only increases with use/wear.

My buddy who kinda sorta works at a shop told me that over time, the gap gets smaller, and sad to gap them .005ish larger than factory. I thought it was weird, but did it anyway. oops.

When the surface wears away, the gap can only get larger. Don't know how your buddy comes up with that idea.

Turned the car off, let it sit a for a min or two. Turned it back on, CEL is gone. Hopefully for good.

Nope. It's back.

A scan is going to tell you why. Nothing else will.

Pull the codes using a paperclip, shbox has that diagram on his site to show which terminals to jump.

On your turn signal issue, my '93 did the same thing only on my right signal. Turned out to be the a bad ground connection in the front parklamp plug (where the bulb sits). I almost bet if you wiggle the black wire on your connector it will start working. Mine would work if I messed with it and would just lose connection from being loose or something.

A slightly wider gap (.056 vs. .050) really won't make any difference here.

And whoever told you the gap gets smaller, well you can let him pump gas-maybe.

If the o/p sensor is broken, it needs to be replaced.

Pilarpod: It just kinda fell out, the big part with the wire, not the part inside of the oil pan, or whatever it's plugged into. I tried to slip it back on, didnt try very hard, couldn,t get it.

It won't hurt the car to drive with a nonfunctional oil pressure sender unit will it?

Not as long as it does not leak (or you lose all oil pressure and don't know it because the gauge is not working). Why not fix/replace it?

I plan to fix/replace it. I was just wondering if I should attempt to limp it over to my buddys shop.
