Default Should I get a bigger TB?

I've been looking at this http://www.jegs.com/i/Holley/510/112-509/10002/-1

and I'm not sure if I really need it right now because all I have is a K&N CAI and a 3.73 rear end.

Do you think I should just go ahead and get it? Or will I get better gains going with something else?

I would not spend the money on that until you maybe put ported heads and a bigger cam in it.

I love your setup, man.

Any suggestions on heads and a cam?

Small cam on wide (like 114) lobe centers would be easier to pass. I have California LT1 cars passing IM240 emissions tests (on the rollers ) with the LT4 "Hot Cam". Takes good cats (not $100.00 muffler shop cats) but something smaller on 114 centers would be easier to pass.
How do they test up there?

They check to see if the emissions from the vehicle pass their standards. We have to do this every two years too, which sucks. I'm not to sure what the limit is I haven't really asked them nor do i want to because they are really stubborn up here.

Thanks for going through and helping me look for parts.

Could you provide me with links to the parts? I'm not to sure where to start looking.

Ed, don't mean to hijack OP's thread but can say.

I am one of your "Calif." tune cars, thank you. Have passed smog with both 350 H/C and now 383 with same heads but a "slightly" larger cam (466 XFI 218/224 @ 113 LSA) for the last 10 years.

I will add my CATS were replaced @ 100k mi with MagnaFlo (not $100).

smog test, especially with the new "STAR" system in force now, in Calif. require OBD2 cars to plug in to verify 19 items (some are visual) and run on rollers 15 MPH & 25 MPH. Have to be under on CO, HC & NO at both RPM's

my smog test print outs don't show any data for just "idle" test so doesn't seem to be part of the test

Roger

Thanks Roger. I forgot about your 383". That 113 lobe centers helps. It should be cleaner than the "hot" cam.

Some areas just check idle and revved to 2500 RPM, just sitting there. No rollers.

Muffler shops around here have universal $100.00 cats made of used "recycled" guts. Not only not efficient, they don't even smell good. LOL

For the OP you need stall and exhaust before you consider heads and cam, trust me I made that mistake of doing the cam first, was mild enough the car drove fine but also the stock stall and exhaust manifolds didn't let the cam work like it should have.

Yes, cam & no converter can slow the car down at the track.

OP

the 58 TB is WAY down on the list of things to do on "your" car given the mods you note.

While it would yield no real performance gain now, you would also have to pull your intake and have it machine to open it to 58 mm, get a tune so your tranny does not die and also make physical "adjustments" to the TB (drill it) to get it to run right.

spend your $ on other mods first and wait until you have a 383 H/C motor along with all the other "supporting" mods. Then regarding a larger TB.....get a stock one re-bored to 52mm
