Default 93 Lt1 Breaking Starters Help Please !!!
My friend recently had his 93 z28 rebuilt. Car ran great for about a month.

He said he went out side one morning for work and jumped in a tried to fire it up and the starter broke
So he thought no big deal I need a new starter.

After breaking three starters he is at the end of his rope and cant figure out what is wrong.

Anyone have any info on this ? it would be greatly appreciated

What part of the starter is breaking? The gear part? Bent flywheel maybe?

its breaking around the gears. the nose cone end

Try and turn it over with a wrench. It may be hydro locked,

how would it get hydro locked when it was running fine the day before ?

I told him to do that and have someone look at the fly wheel to make sure it isn't bent or missing teeth

Do lt1 starters need to be shimmed like SBC ones? I've broken starters from them being too tight

Ive read that some need to be shimmed and some don't. this could be the reason.

Tuning issues? Never broke an LT1 starter but on SBCs the only way I ever had that happen was a timing issue.

My buddy broke the starter on his LT1 when the Opti went bad. It backfired while starting and broke the nose cone. Not saying that's your issue but his was the original starter and it happened.

I had my car sit two days and it broke a starter. Ok no big deal let me get a new one. That one broke right away. So tried again and broke another one. Turned out my #6 cylinder was full of coolant. So I could try to turn the car over by hand first.
