So it's an automatic 93 Trans Am.

Well, what can I do? And don't say get a less powerful car because I already have one.

Good tune up. Make sure tires are at correct pressure. No shifts over 2k.

What are you seeing for mileage?

A good tune up and keeping your foot out of it is all you can really do.
My '93 use to get around 26 highway when it was stock. Best I can do is 23 with boltons and 4.10s which i'm not complaining about. I have a 6-speed though.

Full exhaust w/ longtube headers-
Stock 3.42 gears
Cold air kit
1.6 rockers
Madtuner tune
I managed 29.5 mpg from las vegas to fresno 452 miles to the EMPTY TANK. MIXED driving around town was 15ish
4.10S installed, playing on the highway was 26mpg. Gotta love an m6 car

I have noticed over the last 25 years mileage is all in your maintenance, driving habits and tune. Give that car the ability to breathe, great intake and exhaust but drive normal you will get good fuel mileage. Drive like every green light is your signal to fly mileage suffers.....

I am going to throw tires out there. Tires can make a few mpg difference. If you go with a skinnier low rolling resistance tire you can save a few mpg. The trade off is your going to give up some traction probably.

No shifts above 2k is a good rule of thumb but on my car I noticed the most difference when I just hit the cruise control and chilled on the highway. Didnt speed around at 80-85 but 60-65. Takes a little longer to get places but you dont really notice unless youre on a road trip.

What are you getting for mileage now. And if you have another car, why are you worried about it.
When my car was stock with the 2.73s it would get about 24ish on the highway. Now 13.

How do you drive though? Do you gun it at every light, and just have a heavy foot in general? Don't expect mileage if you do that.

I average 20mpg mixed driving, bolt on 3300#(including driver) with an a4. I pull first to 3500+ every time I go from a stop

I changed from 273 to 342 and noticed 1-2 mpg drop over all. Was mid 20s before the gear change, low 20s after. I run 275 toyo DRs out back all the time.

go to the gym to lose weight
throw out jack/spare tire/delete A/C
put 2.73s? whatever the automatic gear ratio was
skinnier tires with less roll resistance
get some aerodynamic body pieces to reduce wind resistance
full tune up including fuel filter and new injectors
buy a prius

If one where to change the gears to 2.73's would the computer need to be reprogrammed for the speedo or is there just a gear that has to be changed out?

I would put 273 rear gear for fast results in fuel mpg. Rear gear change with a friend will take one hour.
