LT1 cam help
Looking to do a heads and cam upgrade to my stock LT1. I have the Edelbrock Performer LT1 #61909 heads that have been ported and polished up for good flow. I'm just having trouble picking a good solid cam for this motor that will give it great sound but also performance. Looking for some insight on this if anyone can help. Thanks!

Edelbroke says to run their #2108. Any thoughts?

Just a guess, not knowing a lot about what you have, CR, street manners desired, tuning resources available, etc.
and thinking those heads fall somewhere between stock and a really good ported set. If they flow poorly, then you'd need even more overlap to help them make power.

I am sure I have heard of a popular porter porting a set or two and then NOTHING on results which probably says a lot about what the results were.

If you contact Lloyd elliott or Advanced Induction and discussed your heads and intended use for the car they could spec a custom grind. Both may say that they would like to see some flow data on the heads though...assuming that is more than the stock castings before the "port & polish" you note.
off the shelf cam like the LPE 211/219 would be a better pick than the Edelbrock one, IMHO. Even the GM "hot" cam. The newer profile cam like the XFI 466 is another. These are all "small" cams so you could go bigger if you wanted depending on head flow and other "supporting" mods.
You will get as many suggestions as replys. Unfortunately some will just be negative with no input as to what your ? was.
between Lloyd or AI, who do this for a business, you will get some very qualified answers.

Life is great.
Far as the Edelbrock stuff do the slightest bit of research, the advertized flywheel HP numbers are less than folks expect at the tire from ported stock heads with untouched intake and custom cam, the magazine builds are remarkably weak one of them doing a Caprice build with the Edelbrock topend plus nitrous and going only 12.8 from memory. The little actual data we have on the Edelbrock is so bad that nobody who actually researches anything will bother to actually try them.
Just because I don't paint the world as all puppydogs and kittens doesn't make me wrong.
Far as what to get, just get the HOT or something similar and cheap, build is off to such a poor start why handicap good parts by adding them to a poor recipe?

Not the LT1 heads but this is a magazine test of a bunch of heads including Edelbrocks CNC'd LT4 heads which perform worst of the bunch even compared to other as cast heads and Golen's house ported 185cc ported GM heads. Being a magazine article they don't call a spade a spade as they should but look at the dyno chart.
Then again maybe it is just the intake choking the heads since they gave the Edelbrock heads the Edebrock intake.
ANY research on the Edelbrock stuff will turn up that the results we do have are consistently disappointing.
