Stock turbo lt1 in a fox body questions
So my friend has a stock 90k mile lt1 that plans on putting into a fox body. We are are doing this on the cheap with mostly all spare parts just for fun and see how quick it'll go.
Plans are to put new bearings, rod bolts, and gaskets and run on e85. It's a 95 engine so it has the pm rods. What do you think will be the next weak link? Stock pisons?
Also the cam should we leave the stock cam or use my xfi280 (467) cam? Think I can get my hands on a lt4 hot cam, would that be better
Which rods are better the pm rods or older forged ones? I have a set of pistons and rods out of a 94 lt1.
It's on the cheap with probably flipped manifolds and a 69mm (gt45) ebay turbo on e85 and a megasquirt computer. Th400 trans not sure what stall yet, 3.55 gears in the 8.8. 36# injectors if that's to small we got 160# injectors also. Walbro 255 in the tank already also.. everything else will be stock other than springs 1.5 roller rockers guide plates and 7/16 studs, and head studs.
Goals run 10s. Possible? 3100-3200lbs with driver...

Stock LT1's like nitrous more than boost, that is a fact! (and far cheaper) Just sayin!
Who wants to dump more money than they have to in a old Mustang! It will be a bastard child, loved by no one, hated by many, BUT I do acknowledge/admit the fox body's knack for being quicker than much more powerful heavier cars, plenty of dirt cheap parts; and the LT1's superior design over the "old" 5.0.

You need more fuel pump at the very least. Run the big *** injectors and a versafueler unless they are high Z sticks. (not sure if MS can do low Z without a interface) Turbo is a tiny POS, get a cheap GT45 or S400 knock off at least.
New rod bolts means resizing rods, so I wouldn't bother.
Keep the revs down, boost up and timing down.

Stud the heads and mains, get some cheap I beams like the 4340 Scats with 7/16" screws, swap in some 2618 pistons and boost the **** out of it with a bigger turbo.
By the time you spend all of that money on rod bolts and resizing you could have just bought some brand new 4340 rods with ARP bolts already in them.

Honestly, cheaper to put 5.3 down in there and turbo that. Cheaper and more power. Just be like the turbo mustang guys. they blow there 5.0 up and go grab a brand new one for $800 and back driving over the weekend. I've seen it and helped many times. Same principal with the 5.3. Used $350-$400

Yeah the old 5.slow made 350 is rwhp before the crank or mains went lol. So we decided why the hell not throw the lt1 in there. About the only money being spent is on gaskets bearings and hardware. Already have turbo and everything ready to go..

Just trying to have a little fun with parts we already have laying around. Plus finding a 5.3 for 350 out here in socal is hard. Never seen one for less than 500.

PLEASE do this. I'm not usually into bastard swaps like this. But not only would this **** off the ford fan boys, it would ALSO **** off the LS-swapped fox guys as well. Definitely tired of seeing those too, lol.
I suggest some "claimer" ebay rods, some head and main studs, and boost the crap out of it. If you really want to make people scratch their heads and gain some tunability and reliability, do a 24x conversion too. It's alot easier than most people make it out to be.

I remember hearing that the PM rods are stronger than the 93-94 forged but also that PM is more likely to snap than bend. But you're probably not going to break anything running 10s in something as light as a fox.
Hey, not all ford stuff is slow, overpriced junk. Just most of it.

get a bigger turbo. make sure you are pushing enough air through to benefit the system. remember, you're boosting a 350, so your turbo has to move enough volume for the size of the engine. just because it was one of a twin setup on a big block doesn't mean that it alone will push enough air or even that it was pushing enough air to have made a big difference on the other engine.
