problem solved.. in the excitement to start it I hooked the 2 grounds that go to the block by the starter, to the starter oops. I now have spark and fuel but some how it seems the timing is off. its acting like the optispark is 180* out... so im pulling the opti back out to be sure hopefully ill have it running tomorrow.

So the car wont turn over with the key? Have you tried some starting fluid and then jumping the terminals to see if itll start? if it at least tries to fire then you know its a fuel issue.

Im guessing the reason its not turning over is the same reason its not firing.

So we completely reset the timing on the cam and the opti. But still won't start it pops out the intake still but I'm not sure y. The little spline that alignes the opti is not there on my mad opti so I can't put it in a million different ways. So I used a multi meter to ohm the cap and find #1 inside the cap to get me close but still won't start. I have spark I have fuel what gives? Call911 or any body and Any ideas?

Uhhh....you sure about that? My MSD opti certainly does have the spline to align the opti in it's one and only position. It's such a PITA to align that damn thing It should slide in nice and easy once you align it just perfect. Take a very close look, it is kinda hard to see the spline on the MSD driveshaft vs the stock opti. Maybe recheck the wire routing? Maybe a couple wires got crossed messing with the opti? You could just have a bad opti...it happens, has this opti ever worked? You may have to test out a different opti to eliminate it.

I just got laid off too.. so no funds for one. I have a 96 intake if anyone want to trade.

the shaft has to be keyed. its a tiny spline but it has to be there unless it was chiseled off?

If you know that opti works, I'd call MSD and ask about a replacement driveshaft for the opti, it can't be more than a few dollars.

FWIW....this is what the MSD spline SHOULD look like, it pretty much just looks like two of the teeth that have some extra material between them, somebody must have manhandled yours in the hole or something and stripped it!

The good news is it sounds like we found the problem. If you aren't able to align the opti, there's no way it would start or run properly. At first I thought you were saying there was no pin on the end of the cam to go into the back of the opti. The 93 LT1's had these with the non vented style opti's. In 94 they did away with the alignment pin on the cam and the vented opti style became available. But this doesn't sound like what you are talking about. First make sure you have the proper style opti for the motor, then figure out if yours needs repair. You may not have the cash right now, but at least knowing what you need is really more than half the battle.

well im gunna bite the bullet and buy and get a cheap opti it will be at autozone in the morning and then I can send msd mine and have them fix it. but in the mean time ill have a way to get around instead of my moms gas guzzling ford..
call911 I have the right opti Its the one that came on the car and I changed the cam and timing set cuz the motor is a 96.. ill update tomorrow when I get it in and started.

and on a bad note the carport I had put up to work on my car. was picked up by the wind today, and left scratches and white paint on my red paint.... wow not having good luck lol. oh well it needs painted anyways.

thanks again guys

new optispark in and it fired right up. but now its running rough... it will idle good for about 2min then it sounds like its sucking air real bad through the intake and gets really rich out the tail pipe.idle gets choppy and low. aND when I hit the gas it sounds like its got a ping sound coming from the exhaust..

Sounds like you need someone with datalogging capability to see what's going on.

...a few other things it could be; how old and in what condition are the oxygen sensors? When is the last time you cleaned the MAF? Either of these being dirty or fouled can make the car run similar to how you are describing.

It sounds like when it's in open loop things are fine, then after it goes closed loop and starts reading data from the sensors is when things start getting bad. That's why I guessed the MAF or O2 sensors. But it could be elsewhere. Again, if you have someone that can data log, it will help trace down what's going on.

He won't have a MAF on a 93.

He said earlier the motor was out of a 96, so I am assuming it has a MAF and 2 oxygen sensors like a 96 LT1 would.
