Default Female 16 pin connector?

Hey Brian - is the aldl end a 12 or 16 pin male? The ebay ad you listed has it going from 12 to 16 - the connector I have in my car is the 16 pin style obd1. Is there a different connector I need to get off eBay?

I didn't use a diode or resistor.
i bought one of these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FT232RL-USB-...8AAOSwI59aTGDT

and one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-12-Pin-OB...8AAOSwkLhaAvGZ

and I cut the cable and soldered the tx/rx pins together and to the cable.
i soldered the ground pin to the cable.

you will need to verify which wires in the cable are correct using a multimeter or test light.

complete cable

been using it to scan and program for years without issue.

yeah, this is for a 12 pin. My car is a 94.

you'd probably want a different cable for the obd2 style connector.

Great, found some 16 pin OBD "shells" on ebay for a buck - this is gonna be the best/cheapest logger/programmer ever.

question tho - if your car is 94, i thought that was the year they moved to 16 pin style OBD1? I've heard it called OBD 1.5 before.

hey brian,

so i wired up the FTDI 232 chip like you showed - my PCM is a 94 Camaro, (OBD1 but with the OBD2 style connector). I can't get Scan94/95 to connect.

On ALDLcable.com, I followed the pin diagram carefully - everything is where it should be. Do the 94/95 cars have a different baud rate? Do i need the resistor that the first post mentioned?

I thought '94 models had the 12 pin OBD1 connector. Is your car a '94 model?
