No, just wanted to know given you wiped lobes

thanks for answering. Have not used Red Zone lifters. If they adjust like Gen 1 SBC SL pretty straight forward. I had a 70 Z28 with SL I adjusted a few times over the years. IMHO less tedious than the hydraulic "find zero lash + "x" turn pre-load" procedure but SL do need adjusting periodically vs HR not.

Good luck on your build

No real updates. Popped the 2nd most rear main cap and the bearing and journal look remarkably well. The skirts next to the lobes that were damaged look to have more markings than normal. The two cylinders closest to the wiped lobes have scratches on the top sides of the cylinders that I don't like. Block will go to the machine shop probably in the end of June. Depending on the severity of the scratches I may be able to get away with coating the skirts and doing a hone. If that's the case it'll be done in a few days and hopefully can get it together by the end of July. Who knows. Nothing is set in stone right now.
My brother-in-law has his own thing going on in making Super Coupes (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Super...07270676099734) faster and wants to do a cam for my engine to see how it would turn out. May go that direction or may go AI. Don't know.

For whatever it's worth the block is apart.

No issues with the crank and rods. Bores need to be honed, new rings, piston skirts are going to get coated and new bearings.

This rod bearing is the only one that has this marking on it. Looks like it became smashed somehow. Not sure what may have caused it. There seems to be signs of mild detonation, but don't think it would've made this much of an impression on only one bearing.

Carbon has been blown out. Signs of mild detonation. Two of the piston skirts have some minor markings as well.

LPE LT4 heads. Debating having the bowls worked and larger valves. Right now as you can see the bowls are almost completely unmolested and they have 2.00/1.56 valves. My builder is not amused, but this project has always been about spending the least amount of money as possible.

Haven't decided on a cam yet. It will be hydraulic and will probably be on the mild(er) side. Will probably use the same 1.55 dia. style springs so I can get away with using the titanium retainers again.

Something close to that cam profile has been discussed. Nothing wrong with a GM847.

I have the wheels and tires off, it's on jack stands. Can you do this without rear tires on? Keep reading that they need to be on to pivot but why wouldn't it pivot on a round axle?

The wheels would add stability to the entire operation. It's just another thing you have to look after while raising the body of the car. I'm sure it can be done, but I wouldn't do it at least the way I did. I had two square 2X4 blocks on each jack. With the e-brake off the wheels were able to give the slack needed as the body was being raised. With jackstands in place of the back wheels there is no leeway since the wheels will roll forward as the body is raised. Either the jacks or the jackstands will try and take up the slack and may start to tip, and with the body being raised at such an angle, I wouldn't chance it.

Forgot to post up the really bad lifter:

After pulling the cam there were two lobes completely wiped and four more that showed signs of pitting.

You've owned that car long enough, nothing to prove to any one. Just throw it back together and keep enjoying it.

Will do, chief. Probably won't be taking this car to the track much anymore until my oldest gets his license in a few years.
