Default Bought a 94 with issues.

First off this thing was half *** put together. Spliced wires, fuel lines, water lines. The list goes on. But my main problem I have with this car is a transmission or stall issue. This is the 1st auto I have ever owned so I do not have any earthly idea what is going on.

So this is what its doing. 1st few days it drove good a total of 10 miles I put on this thing. lol but yesterday I took it out after new waterpump, radiator, opti cap, wires, plugs. Drove great. Come to a stop sign and car starts sputtering once I hit the brake. Like a newb driving manual for the 1st time and left the clutch engaged. I turned the car back on put it in gear and it lunged forward and died. Did this numerous times. So I gave it a little gas when putting it in gear and it lunges forward and I give it more gas and takes off from there.

This morning I try again. Idles fine and is creeping forward in drive for about 30 seconds and then lunges forward like the convertor locked Im guessing. I hit the brake the car dies. So I parked it.

All in all if this is something major time to make this car a 6 speed

Sounds like your TCC (torque converter clutch) is stuck on. Inside a TQ converter is a clutch disc (like a manual clutch), this is used as the TQ converter lockout. It connects the input shaft to the crackshaft like a manual clutch would to eliminate TQ converter slip in cruising conditions. Sounds like yours didn't let go.

Do you have a ALDL to USB cable yet? If not get one (or make a USB port on your car - this is $10 I've heard) for ~$50. Then download Gary Doug's Scan9495 (free) and data log that thing! You need to see what exactly is going on.

Or you can throw parts at it. Replace the TCC solenoid, if that doesn't work, replace Tq Converter.

I'd prefer the data logging method, plus if you do get that cable or USB conversion, you can download Tuner Pro RT for free and you can now tune your car too (well you'd still need WinFlash from Tuner CATS, but that's only $20). $70 for data logging, error checking, and tuning is about the price of a chepo OBD2 scanner.....

Personally, if I were replacing my TQ converter, I'd stall it higher and rebuild that trans (hardened sun shell, shift kit, better clutches and steels, upgrade the 3/4 pack to a 7 disc, etc).

The stall is a 3500 stall and the trans is a Level 2 RPM transmission

Well, hell then. I think a rebuild is out of order LOL. Unless the TCC is actually working right, then it's either the converter or the trans.

So you can data log it?

What brand stall?

Agreed. You will have to tune the speedometer calibrations for the 6 speed though. As far as I know the LT1 T56's were the same from 1994-1997.
