Default What do I do with this Cylinder Head?

As I add to the long list of parts failures that I seem to be experiencing over the past 5 years of messing around with LT1 crap I can now add an LE2 head to the list.
I have a weeping hole in the intake runner of the head on Cylinder number 8. Looks like it was worked to thin and is weeping coolant. Puts a small puddle on top of the valve every night. I charged the cooling system in the engine to 15 PSI constant to check head gaskets and runners on the suspicion that one of the runners was leaking and found this. Now what can I do to fix it?

Pretty far in there and the risk of burn through pretty high if it's thin enough to leak.
I put an email into Lloyd to see what he says. Wanted to see if others had problems and the remedies.

If it goes into a bolt hole, sleeve it.

Seems to be really close to the head bolt so can one of you explain how to sleeve this. Can you provide a part number for the sleeve and what size the bolt hole will have to be drilled out to? Is this done by a machine shop or by hand? Is the head then welded to the sleeve???

I might know a guy but it's a shot in the dark I would have to see them do it first since my luck with "professionals" around here qualifies my dumb *** as an expert.

Call Lloyd and see what he says. He will at the very least be able to tell you what to do.

In that link Lloyd is saying how to sleeve it and using lock tight plus adding a sealant to the threads on the bolt or studs threads going into the block helps prevent coolant getting past.

Splash Zone A+B epoxy.. that's what the pros use on intakes and cylinder heads. As long as you aren't running alcohol it will be fine - alcohol softens it up. The hard part would be cleaning the metal to apply it and not making the hole bigger, then reshaping that area of the port - again not taking off to much material.

If you're not comfortable doing this call around to your local reputable machine shops. As said above it should be able to be tig welded to.

Exactly. If it's an LE head then send it back to LE to have it fixed. Just that simple.

Yep, over the years he has been very good with fixing anything that is his fault. Nobody is perfect and people do make mistakes. Give him a chance to make it right, if it's something he did he will fix it.

Agree'd, he's a stand up guy. This is more common than people think on SBC heads in many machine shops across the country.

Lloyd Emailed me back and he says he has to see it in person so the next question is what is the best way to box up a the cylinder head for shipping?
Let me know what has worked well for you.

LT1 heads are prone to lots of core shift, so a port that may be fine on one head may poke through on another. Welding it is probably the best bet, but definitely let LE see it.

To ship the heads I would first wrap them in bubble wrap, then place in a tight fitting box with a sheet of foam on each side - not the hard white foam sheet, the soft kind that comes in a roll. That is how my AFRs came in and they made it fine all the way from Canada to FL.

Is this normal for ported cylinder heads? I have holes in my cylinder head similar to what the op has but I do not have any leaks as far as I know. The holes that I have are on the inside where the curve is, if that makes sense. I saw the holes when repairing a head gasket failure but I did not know any better......now I do.

Not normal. But common. There should only be two holes in each port. One for the intake or exhaust manifold the other for the valve.
