Default Opti - API or Chandler?

So I need to replace my opti, I was told by a sponsor on the corvette forum they have a API opti that is rated to 8000RPM and a USA made sensor. I found the API website, they don't even seem to list the non vented Opti for sale and have not replied to my email asking about it.

Then I remembered Chandlers, Can't find any recent input on him. most of its from 2010-2012, Want to see if the quality has gone up/down or stayed the same.

Any suggestions? Can't spend $300+ on a opti right now.

The lt1 PCM can't go over 7100rpm. You want a vented opti.

I would not buy either one, unless you want to replace it again real soon.

I'd search for a used Delco before I would run ANYTHING else. I think there is one in the classifieds even.

I realize that, I'm saying since he's on a budget and can't afford a new, I would rather him get at least a good used GM unit.

MSD. I would try to find a used one, or even a non working unit. I was able to send mine into MSD for a full rebuild. New updated optical sensor, cap, rotor etc. IIRC, it was about $150. with shipping both ways...

OP

neither of the two you note

a "new" Delphi is around $280 from rockauto.com

if you need to go cheap....than a opti from Skip White is an option. Have no direct experience with them but have heard some using with + results.

The $59 though .....may mean you are getting what you pay for

I ordered the chandler, iv read mostly positive reviews about it and as late as 2013 I found a post on corvetteforums showing off the insides of one. Wish me luck in the opti gamble! I was seriously looking at MS3 kits but would rather just get the car back together.

LTCC doesn't eliminate the opti and the owner went missing a few years ago.

Good thing I bought a back up unit then! Once the high voltage is removed form it there isn't a reason to remove it, it works just like a crank trigger.

I am in contact with Bob Bailey. He said the company is in business and still makes the LTCC

Still around. Still making the LTCC, in fact I revised it this year and added a second trigger wire and a third dial so the 2-step and retard functions can be used together or separately.

Not sure how these rumors get started, but there has been some confusion over the years with the Deltec stuff (which I believe is gone).

I have a Chandler unit on my Vette and on my old Caprice. Both have been bulletproof. I would definitely get a Chandler opti again. It was under $100! Also I'm pretty sure the Delco/Delphi AKA "OEM" replacement optis don't even use the good Mitsubishi optical sensor anymore so as far as I'm concerned its just as crappy as a BWD unit. Good price and they carry a year warranty, I think you can get longer warranties too if you pay a little more. I'm happy with the Chandler optis.
