Default My Ignition Problem...

I have a really bad ignition problem...the dyno sheet is the worst dyno sheet I have ever seen...but I think it is in the computer. The owner before said that some guy programmed the computer and the timing is advanced, from the looks of things it's advanced a lot...I hope it's not the Opti, but he told me I had to run 93 octane through it and some octane booster...I put in some 89 octane (because gas is crazy expensive) and it started to run even worse, so that's why I think it is because it is to advanced. Let me know what you think...

I had a buddy with a 96 Cobra that had a dyno sheet look almost that bad. It ended up being his plugs and wires causing it. Did you do the dyno pulls on the 89 octane? I try to stay away from that stuff, even with the gas prices like they are.

I can't remember if the dyno pull was on the 89 or not...I believe it was on 93 but with no octane booster, and the problem has gotten worse since the dyno.

How long has it been since the plugs and wires have been changed?

I bought the car October of 2003...it had 93,000 on the clock. It now has 98,500 on the clock and I haven't changed the plugs or wires. I don't know if the owner before me did or not.

I would start there. Something easy to do it to start the car in a dark parking lot or in the garage with the lights off(with the door open of course) and look for any archs. Right before I did my plug wires the first time, I just happened to do this and it looked like the 4th of July under the hood. What had happened is that 9 years of heat had made the wires brittle and they cracked making them arch which in turn they lose the entensity of the spark.

Hey brandboZ28, I did what you told me too and it looked crazy! On the drivers side there were archs like crazy...so does that mean I just need a new set of plugs, wires, and spark plugs?

Yea, looks like its time for a full tune up. I would put on a good set of plug wires(I like MSD personally) and some good plugs(I like NGK's myself). Do you have headers? If so, I would invest in some heat sleeves for the plug wires.

I'm getting Jet-Hot LTs very very soon, so I think I will order the OVC kit for the plug wires....I really hope this fixes that annoying *** ignition problem.

Yeah definitely not good when you see the lighting storm in there, I'd consider new 02s while your at it, not sure of your setup but I go through them about every 5 months, Bosch are crap but ORielly has a 1 yr warranty and I've only bought them once over a year ago and replaced them 4 times, it's crazy.

Not sure who makes them but theres a new 02 out there that is adjustable for any octane including race-gas. If anyone knows who makes these post it up please?
