Default Seals are STUCK!!!

My water pump drive seal and optispark seal that sit in the timing cover won't budge. I tried a seal puller that looks like something that Jason Voorhies would use in Friday the 13th as a weapon but I cant get that opti seal to budge out of the timing cover.

Screw driver trick didn't work for the WP drive seal either? Am I going to have to saw the seal into pieces or drill it to get it out? I also am trying to be careful not to scuff the cam drive or the timing cover. Any ideas?

I'm guessing you still have the timing cover on? It's a lot easier with it off.

Another trick you can try it screwing a sheet metal screw into the seal and put a vice grip on in and pull.

You tried using a small screwdriver in the notch cast in the cover for the wp seal? Use a hammer to drive the screwdriver in. Make sure the hook tool you're trying isn't going in too far and grabbing the casting land behind the seals. Spline drive opti seal is rubber coated and comes out pretty easily.

screwdriver just ripped through the seal on the top, the rest of it is stuck. That sheet metal screw trick may work I have to try that. If that doesn't work it will get hacksawed to loosen it up. It really doesn't want to move.

there only thin metal if you cant get them out with any of the above methods you're doing something wrong. are you sure you're only on the seal and not hooking the tool on something back there?

That's the Jason Voorhies tool I tried! I will try again in a few days when my work stretch is done. Those little bastards have been in there for 18 years so they def don't want to come out easy!

OP

the seal removal tool shown in this thread should "easily" remove the seal. Make sure the hook part is not catching part of the TC. Just work the tool around the seal it will come up

On the WP drive seal, just use a small screw driver and hammer and punch the screw driver through the top of the seal and pry out

FYI both Opti & WP drive seals install "dry"..no oil.

You are prying the seal off in this manner?
