LT1 or LS1?
Good god man how are you guys faster than the fastest of modern supercars in an F-body? And beefier rear sway as in 22 mm or 25 mm?
Don't get caught up on the miles. A good clean car with 100+K is better than a rode hard 45K mile car by far. All depends how they were treated. These motors don't just up and crap out past 100K miles. They are tough motors.
These cars are getting old so no matter the miles, they will more than likely need a little work. Rubber parts don't last forever, even on a low mile car. And you can almost bet, a car with low low miles that barely gets driven will develop some sort of fluid leak once you start to drive it a lot. It just happens. Just look for clean examples that you can tell were taken care of.

"Comparing this time with a pro-racing lap is impossible because of the somewhat odd VIR configuration we use."
They had a 2:46 on whatever configuration they are using.
As a side-note, the 2015 Z06 is quicker than the 918 around the same course:

Probably a 22mm solid.

Owned a few of each, both great motors. Loved the low down grunt of the LT1 but imo theres no comparison. LS1 breathes much longer. My high 12 second LT1 w/ the same mods on the LS1 was easily in the 11's.
Stock for stock, no. Prepped cars, anything's possible
Plus the LS1 would be worth about 100lbs of nose weight savings. Surely appreciated for a car with emphasis on handling.

Obviously not stock v stock lol the race already ends on paper, and yeah seeing LS1s are only a thousand dollars or so difference w/ competing LT1s, I'll go after LS1s only.
$7K for an LT1 Z28 is absurd unless it is pristine and even then you can find mid-high mileage 94-97 Z28s for under $5K all day. I see 96-97 SS cars for $6-7K and to be honest $8K for a standard Z28 LS1 even seems a little pricey. Spend some time looking there are a lot better deals then the two you presented.
To be honest my opinion would be look into "special edition" models such as SS/WS6. For the extra 1-2K I think you will like the perks but as well I feel they will retain their value/selling points a little better. Z28s and base Trans Ams are a dime a dozen and for the price I see SS/WS6 cars both LT1 and LS1 going for the last couple months, I would be hard pressed for someone to justify to me why not spend the little extra money.
Edit: Also PM me if you want I can send you quite a few ads of SS/WS6 cars that were in the same price range you described for the two you were looking at.
