Basically it was the right thing to do career wise for both the wife and I. Cost of living is far less, got way more house for literally half of what we were was paying in VA. Lots of open space. Traffic bullshit is non-existent. My commute does not suck the soul out of my being as it did in VA. Kids like it, lots of outdoor **** to do. I have friends in the area. Wife has family all over the NW and Canada. I am originally from SoCal and lived in CO for awhile so we have the best of both words with desert and mountain terrain. We've been here for awhile and so far none of us have any complaints. Only thing we miss about VA are the friends and neighbors we left behind. The whole idea about moving has been several months in the making. This opportunity presented itself and we decided to go with it and see what happened.

Very cool, congrats. The traffic here in VA is enough reason to always consider leaving, but normally it's hard to find good work where there is no traffic. Are you going to change direction with the build considering your roads and local tracks have changed?

No. Staying the course. Just doing a simple rebuild with some bowl work on the heads and most likely a 100 shot. Keep that for a few years and if I'm still interested then maybe drop a big CID LS into it.

I'm from Stuart, VA. Not much traffic there, but not much work either(for an Engineer). That's why I'm in the Triad area of NC. Love rural living though...miss those Blue Ridge Mountain views with plenty of land around a house. Land around a house here is expensive.

I pray the move works out well for ya. Moving from East to West coast is no small task.

My plans are similar to that of your LT1....get some AI heads on it with a different cam...maybe even a 383...but I think I'll see how far the stock shortblock will take me before I pump more money into it.

I've got so much invested in the LT1 with tools, software, and mods that I'd hate to start over with an LS setup. However, it's something I might be willing to tackle if funds permit.

Hard to beat the sound of the LT1 when it's built right. Guess it's the firing order that makes the LS sound different....or maybe the AL block(or both). Wonder if an iron LSX block sounds better.

Is it new? Any vibration issues if you've run it before? Any balance holes around the perimeter? Like so?

http://ace1252.com/images/Valeo/Valeo_1.JPG

I ask because the new Valeo kit I got has none drilled in any of the three usual spots around the pressure plate. Makes me nervous on using it. So much so I think I may have it's balance verified.

If you haven't run it before, let us know how it does. I may order up one for mine. The Valeo unit I just got is more of a backup part than anything....

I think I'm going to have Karl Ellwein build me a 383 short block when I get serious on my heap.

I'm also running a Spec 3+. It's only got about 100 miles or so on it so far but it seems very streetable. Also using a Spec steel flywheel and all ARP hardware. Doing great so far and I expect nothing less for a long time.

The PP comes zero balanced from the factory. I did however have mine checked with the flywheel because I was spinning up to 7200rpm with the last build. The builder did say it was slightly off. If it does bother you I'd go ahead and have the PP and flywheel checked together.

BTW- HUGE thanks to shbox for supplying shbox.com and giving me the ability to reference things I have forgotten in the last 2+ years this thing has been down.

Quite a bigger cam then your last one right? 242/248?

Can't wait to see it finished, looks like you didn't cheap out on anything!

The SR was a 248/250 on a 112 with far more lift. Honest to God I do not expect the output to be any more than before. If there was a track around me at sea level I'm thinking it'd be somewhere in the mid to high 11 range. My builder thinks it may be overcammed. It's loading up at cruising speed and doesn't like to be taken below 1500rpm, of course, the tune is still from the last build. All I want to do at this point is drive and enjoy the damned thing! There are a lot of imports and bro dozers around here I need to say 'hi' to.

Glad to see a fellow Bright Teal SS on the road again. We come far and few between! Build looks good, enjoy it. And let us know the first time you find a car in your area that can give that LT a run for its money!

Oh, I must have mixed your build up becuase I could have sworn you had a tiny old school SR with like 23x duration lol.

There is definitely some merit to just wanting a reliable car that you can enjoy after going too mod crazy and spending tons on mods and maintenence. Sometimes I wish I had a simple ported stocker 355 with a T56 and procharger w/ a few lbs of boost to just have a reliable ~425rwhp driver. It wouldn't be nearly as fast as my build but would be cheaper, more reliable, and a hell of a lot better mannered then the beast I'm perpetually working on.

It's looking good, man. Been down a long time - I'm sure you're looking forward to getting back out on the street with that car. Ever think about going LS1 ignition? Far more people out there to tune, and the PCM is faster.

Oh c'mon. It's was still fairly tame in SR standards. It had .650/.610 lift on a 112. It was old school too. Had to get the snout drilled out for the opti.
But yes, track days are pretty much done for this thing. I have a set of 4.11's I'm planning on putting in if I can figure out the mid-RPM surging thing. If it is indeed a lot of cam I'll keep the 4.56's. If not then I'll gear it down some. The SR handled 3.73's no problem so I'd hope a relatively smaller HR can handle 4.11's and this is just a tune thing.

Hey fella. Glad to see you are still around! My builder is a one-man-show and I was on a waiting list. I have seriously contemplated doing a PCM change, however for now I'm going to keep it like this and if I get bored and replenish the funds then I'm still wanting to do a big cube N/A LS motor.

Oh thats still a baby cam for an SR, just thought it was even smaller lol.

Even though I told myself I would never buy another F-body(after my third one, my Z is the only one I plan on keeping) I am still tempted to find a sub 100k LT1 for like 3k and throw a used blower on it for a cheap and fun street car. I can reuse a lot of parts from my old build like the ported stockers w/ crane gold 1.6RRs, COMP stock length PR's, 10308 valvesprings, and SVO 30s. Sell the custom cam for something smaller like the cc305 on a 114 , run only 5-6psi, and just enjoy it. Should drive almost like stock.

If someone told me they had a low miles rebuilt LT1 or a clean one with under 100k for like $3k I'd jump on it. There aren't many fun vehicles I can find for a street car in the sub $5k range and I don't want to spend more then that on a beater. Can't bring myself to just get a $2k craigslist civic or a corolla or something lol.

Way OT though...glad you're working on your car again .

I just love how the color of that car changes in different lights. You have it running now?
