Hey guys, I have a bone stock LT1 car, and am planning out my intake setup. I have a WS6 ram-air hood (on a non-WS6 car), so I know I can fit an LS1 Lid pretty easily under the scoop. I am aware that the performance difference is pretty negligible between a lid and a cai.

I was just wondering if anyone knows which intake sounds better. Did some searching and couldnt find conclusive comparison info.

At idle, the Moroso CAI on my LT1 was noticably louder(whistling noise) then the lid on my current LS1. Once the pedal is to the floor though, the exhaust note takes over and cannot tell either way.

Don't know if your talking about the whistle certain cold air intakes provide, but from my experience you need something like a S2000 revving 9K RPMs to really be drawing in crazy air. Plus Usually V8 fbodys are loud enough with an aftermarket exhaust that I've only heard my moroso CAI whistle on a cold startup in weather 70* and under. On the road I can't really hear it. But you have to note my car is loud being I have Longtubes, no cats on a custom Y pipe into magnaflow exhaust.. Not to mention being 11:7:1 SCR and having a cam.

When I installed a new K&N CAI I could hear a noise from it under heavy throttle. It was more of an air rushing noise than a whistle noise. I doubt you could hear it with a loud exhaust.

I don't remember what my moroso cai sounded like, but unless it's a turbo car I truthfully don't hear squat. I went with the ls1 lid because I liked the way it looked, I also noticed an improvement in upper rpms.

I think I will go with the LS1 Lid, then. Cant really go wrong there. Thanks for the replies!

I had the GMPP CAI and it worked great, really nice pickup when I installed it. After I did the LS1 lid I'd never go back to a CAI of any kind. The mid to high end pull will make you want to throw rocks at even the best of CAI.

Ran both styles on my old LS1, it was a swap car and I never noticed any difference in sound or performance.

I've had a couple different set ups, MTI CAI, LPE CAI, Firehawk air box, WS6 Air Box and now a FTP 104mm lid. Loudest I would say was the WS6/Firehawk style air boxes. The FTP might be loud, but everything is loud on the car now so it's hard to tell.
