Default Rag joint replacement finished.

I got my rag joint replaced today on my 1996 Z28 using Unbalanced Engineering's kit. All in all, it went pretty well, the steering shaft came out in about 15 minutes without even getting under the car. The only issue was that two of the rivets in the rag joint didn't want to come out and a buddy had to do some grinding and heating to get them out. The end result looks good and as soon as we get a warm day, I'll see how it drives. Also, I have Hooker long tube headers and it went right in, the bolts aren't making contact with the headers like I've seen in some reviews before.

I've got one ready to go on my car, just have to find the time, glad to hear it's not too big of a job.

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on any differences you feel

I probably won't be able to feel as big a difference as some others since my car only has 33K miles, the joint wasn't that bad, but I figured I'd go ahead and get it done.

Looks like you got the top of the steering shaft on 180 degrees out. I do not think fitment will be a problem but I imagine getting that bolt in from underneath now will be a chore.

It was actually easy, that's the way it was, I photographed it before I removed it and put it back together the same way. The high bolt was on top and the lower bolt by the steering rack was pointed towards the drivers side corner of the radiator. It actually came in and out a lot easier than I thought it would.

You put loc-tite on the bolts?

P.S. I hate your avatar. I have had an ingrown toenail and have broken my toe as well as lost/nail ripped off the bed twice and it all looked similar to that ****.

Yes, I used Loctite and I know all about the ingrown toenils!

I'll send you a private message, I don't think they're sponsors here.

I didn't have contact issues with my pacesetters but after installing stepped headers I had to cut the excess off the bolts.

I've heard that, I was worried before I got it installed, but it looks like it's got good clearance.

Just did mine yesterday/today...man those rivets are tough little suckers, can't really feel any difference, but it's good to know there isn't anywhere for slop to develop

I agree, mine only has 33k miles, but I just wanted to get rid of the rag joint. And yes, those rivets were terrible.
