Default LUK clutches, how are they?

Anyone ever use LUK rep clutch set from rock auto? I'm about to purchase one within the next few hours unless it's just total garbage. Car is a 97 Z28 M6, its stock with the exception of a catback and CAI. I really don't plan on doing anything to this car besides driving it. Already did that to my previous Z28. Will this LUK clutch hold up to day to day driving?? how well are they built?

everyone i talk to says they're good except for the throwout bearing; but apparently you can't get a good bearing to save your life these days

Why not go with the Valeo? I know it's more, but IIRC those are OEM replacements.

Great. That's what's destroyed on my current clutch set. UGH. Sucks a lot of company's are letting the LT1 stuff fade out.

I have ~2000 miles on one and it's been great so far, i've got a bit more than stock power and it's held it with no problems at all.

Every TO bearing I have seen from several clutch companies is the same China deal. The "vette" one (LT4) had a square top one which IMHO is stronger in that area vs the round one but it to is still a China made, or off shore somewhere, one.

SPEC I believe does sell the square top one for around $80 IIRC. With that said I would just use the one that is in the LUK kit

Autozone sells those cheap throwout bearings for $40. P/N: 614116

I know the OP doesn't need this info, but I thought I'd share for anyone wondering.

I'm running the PowerTorque Clutch kit from O'reilly's with the McLeod 500 series disc. No issues with the PowerTorque stuff for ~20K miles.

Okay so I purchased a slave cyl assembly and clutch kit... Part numbers are
Clutch kit #CRS031
Slave kit #04134 (04-134)
Also ordered a few other goodies for the car. Really excited. Hopefully having both LUK parts it should just be a simple install, hit the road and go driving!

I really wanted it but only have 400$ and also had to have the pre bled slave assembly as well which is another 105$. Meh, budgets

Valeo stopped making kits for our cars years ago....unless they have decided to fire back up production again. The last kit I bought that was advertised as Valeo was a knockoff in a ragged old Valeo box.

This is what a real one should look like.....
http://ace1252.com/images/Valeo/Vale...ch_package.JPG

Packaged very, very, well with some type of form fitting foam around all the components.

The knockoff arrived in a beatup Valeo box with everything rattling around inside the box, cheap looking clutch disk, bearing instead of bushing, unbalanced clutch pressure plate.....I let the seller know I was not happy and that I knew it was a knockoff. I sent it back and got a refund.

I'm happy with my Luk clutch on my bolt on car, but I'm not what you'd call an aggressive driver. I have about 2k miles on it.

The Luk clutch I put in the Roadmaster had Valeo printed all over the disc. Valeo doesn't make the pressure plates or TOBs anymore so all kits come with the C70043 plate and circular bearing with green seal. I broke 2 of the circular bearings within 2 years before going with the square one. You can buy the stronger square top TOB through Spec for $80 last I checked.

before you install that throwout bearing and housing. take it to a mig/tig welder. have him weld around the top where the 2 pieces are pressed together. and on the inside front corner all the way around. have welder use spray bottle so as not the heat up the bearing seals. now take a dremel grinding wheel and grind the weld down a bit. doesnt have to look perfect, just somewhat even. thats where it breaks all the time. it will last the life of the clutch. yes, there is no after market throwout bearing and housing, that i know of.

Anyone out there still sell the square top TOB? Thought I seen McLeod Street Level Kits come with a square top. Could be wrong though,

Edit: NVM Missed one of the above posts
