Default Running Wires Into Cabin

While I'm under the car, I wanted to get the wires for the electric cutout routed into the cabin. What's the best way to get wires through the transmission shift area without removing the transmission? I did a search and am not seeing this info.

Pull up the carpet and find any of the many rubber drain plugs. Put a slice in one and feed your wire through up into the cabin.

Would I generally find those in the the footwell areas, or should I start taking out the center console?

Iirc I ended up running my wideband wires through the same grommet hole as the shift linkage

That's what I was initially aiming for, but is there a trick to getting to that without dropping the trans?

I've never had to do this, but do you think you could drop down a long string with a nut tied to the end as a weight from the top of the grommet hole where the shift linkage is and then tie your wire to the rope and pull it through the grommet hole where the linkage is?

Op, do you think this is possible?

Sounds like a good idea. I wasn't sure if anything would obstruct something from freely heading down there.

Well I can't remember exactly how I did it without looking at it but I definitely had the trans still in the car and only removed the center console. Just resealed around where I pulled the wire through with silicone. That s what I did for the wideband. I don't remember using anything fancy to accomplish it outside of maybe some hemostats or long needle nose pliers. Once you take out the console it's pretty easy to figure out.

Iirc I ran the cutout wires somewhere under the rear seats where there was another grommet beneath the carpet.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the input, I'll look into that!
