Good cam for stock lt1
Hello everyone. I have a 1995 firehawk. Only mods are long tube hooker headers and mass air flow sensor. Slp two on the left exhaust. I am basically looking for what the best sounding cam for my car would be. Not looking to make it fast, just want the awesome cam sound. Any ideas?

I've looked into the hotcam. Didn't know whether to go with the kit or get something else. What effect will the stock air flow sensor do as opposed to the aftermarket one.

Run the stock MAF with the screen in it and spend your $ elswhere. sell the aftermarket MAF if you can but most know to stay away from them
Only problem with Hot Cam kit is the springs. They were intended for the lighter LT4 valves so will be weak right out of the box with the heavier LT 1 valves. The cam itself is OK for what you are looking for (sound) but get better springs. Do not use your old stock springs

Thanx for the ideas. I've looked into the gm847. Some ppl have said not to run it on a stock bottom end. I'm not sure which route to go. I know a guy that had the hotcam and it was a mild sound, less than I want I think.

OP
as mentioned just google LT1 cams sound clips and see if there is something you like. If you are looking for a poser cam that puts out more of a chop idle sound....you can have the PCM programmed for a lower idle which helps exacerbate a cam sound. The Lunati Vodoo cam has a chop sound if that is your primary goal. The cam itself may be more than a stock bottom end would support at high RPMs where its peak power may be but if its all about a big cam chop sound that may be one
or contact Lloyd Elliott and ask him about a grind that has more a chop cam sound you may be looking for

Talked that lloyd on the phone. Leaning towards there 226/232 cam. Gunna go with 1.6 rockers and new pushrods. Undecided on those or what is a good choice without digging into the pocket much

than the tuner can make the idle lower than he normally would which will give it a little more chop sound. With the cam your idle will be higher than stock. Generally for a cam like you are getting the command idle is around 850, sometimes more. With a M6 you could get away with a little lower but it can be a fine line between to low of a idle and stalling.
