Cam Motion Solid Roller I was talking about cars with my bro and he brought up running a LLSR to squeeze a little more power out of my old 11.5:1 CR 383 LT. Last time the engine was out I left the original blower cam in the car. Specs XE 230/236 .510 .520 114LSA w/1.5 rockers. The car HAS High Tech Stainless 1.7's. Specs with the rockers should roughly be .578 .589 with duration being effected somewhat at .050 and above. Looking for opinions on weather or not I can get some noticeable gains swapping to a solid roller that is ground for a N/A setup. What are some thoughts out there?
Car has stock casting heads hand ported by Lingenfelter. 54cc heads with a 185 runner. Car feels like the cam peaks around 62-6300 maybe a little lower with the heads. Hard to tell. Speedo gets behind and the tach is not accurate. I would bet they are comparable to LE2's are AI.

Here is a short clip showing how the car revs. First video is the latest with the car running on E85 with 4.30 gears on a 28" Mickey short shifting. Car got a tune later with better injector offset than what was previously in the car. Videos are just for information purposes showing how the car revs. No head flow data.
This next video is from the car had 3.89 gears on 28" Mickeys and running 93 octane. Wound it out more here. Short shifted the previous video with 4.30's because I was not watching the tach and going off of sound.

Noticeable gains? ..........hell yes, you will !
Even a proper NA HR grind would improve your hp curve.
Your peak is still going to be around 6100-6200 with those heads (which are VERY good heads BTW), but the entire curve will be stronger compared to that blower cam in there now.
LLSR is what I'm doing with my upcoming 383 build. Running Comp QNI lobes, which are actually very aggressive HR lobes. Custom from LE.
With my previous AI HR cam (which was also very aggressive HR lobes), my valvetrain was slightly out of control at 7000 rpm with 160 lbs seat load and stock LT1 lifters.

I will go LE too. Doesn't matter. I have money to put in the proper valve train so at least I can let 4th gear rev on out if I need it to get me thru the quarter. The car has Comp R lifters in it now. Do you think I could get those to work with a setup like yours? I emailed Kip today from Cam Motion. Have not heard anything yet. If I can get some noticeable power I would be happy. I thought about spraying but I would like to put a cam in that is optimal and see if that keeps me happy for awhile. I am happy now but knowing that the cam is not optimal has always bothered me. I have everything else working together as well as I can. From the LS1 lid conversion/ Chris1313 ram air/bigger 85mm maf/ Kooks headers and true dual exhaust/E85/more gear/tweaking the tune. I think a solid roller will do it for me. Even with these tiny heads. If it still peaks soon with the heads, the stronger power band will work. Car hooks well and is already very strong there. It will just help pull 3rd and 4th gear out even more.

Yes, you could run the Comp R lifters with "aggressive HR" / "mild LLSR" lobes, and that might be a decent plan if limiting your rpm to 6500-6600. If you want to buzz it to 7000, based on what I saw in my own previous engine, I'd recommend solid lifters.
He spec'd a custom for me, using my present 1.6 I / 1.52 E rockers.

I had a cam motion 248/250 .650/.610 on a 112 with LPE LT4 ported heads/intake on my 396. Peaked at 6800. Shifted around 7100. Got a best of 11.22 @ 122.6 with a 1.55 60' with a 3750lb race weight. Ran 4.56 gears. For an N/A setup you may want to run a steeper gear. I was running 4.56's with a 27" tire. What I noticed most is the torque curve was pretty broad. When I had 3.73's in the car I could run it in 5th gear going 45mph no problem. It's as if it had a stock powerband.

I might do that just so I don't spend so much money. If I keep the revs down and run my same lifters, I should be able to run my same push rods. They worked fine on a XE lobe with 1.7 rockers. I would think that is pretty aggressive. How snappy the throttle is sure seems that way lol. I will get a hold of him thanks. I will let you know what I do.

Def see gains and should like a little more rpm. Make sure you run good lifters with oiling to roller axle/needles. I was gonna go solid on my old build, lunati solid lifters (reboxed morel), td shaft mounts, ll solid roller, manley titanium retainer/locks, manley springs and rev to the moon

Next thing is figuring out if my current cam has a small base circle or not. It is just a XE230/236 .510 .520 @114. Then make sure I get a lifter that is the same height as the Comp R's that are in there now.
So are you going SR or aggressive HR? If you are going SR then pushrods are cheap. Don't worry about comparing sizes of lifter bodys. Get a quality HIPPO lifter and then measure for proper PR length.
Also, if you are concerned about getting the best ET out of your setup, use a final gear that'll keep you out of OD.

I have the stock size high tech chromoly push rods in it now. I was told they would work fine. It will be a tight lash solid roller. Was also told by Bob Cook that the Morel M5372's would work just fine. Was told those M5372's just oil the top end more than the higher dollar Johnson's and higher end Morel's. Only reason I am trying to still get these push rods to work is they were a little pricy.
~Bob thought I was using a hydraulic roller. I was a little confused when I looked up the part number and it said they were hydraulic. M5372's are not correct. M4604 are the ones that will be used if everything works out.

Just ordered the cam this evening. Specs are: .637 Int .629 Exh 244/254 @.050 on a 110+4. Also ordered Morel 4604 lifters.

Hopefully. I sold my Springfield TRP 1911 .45ACP pistol I didn't use to make me feel better about doing it. It was either this cam swap or nitrous.
Yea I don't know. I told him what I had and he was confident the heads were good. I told Kip that they were not their old style heads. AL at lingenfelter said they were light years ahead of their old heads. Kip asked me if I wanted this thing to scream and I said yea lol. Still doesn't change the small runner size. I told him I wanted it to peak around 6600 and shift at 7.

I will update this thread with some track times and a dyno run when I get it back together. Hopefully I get the cam this week. Most likely will start tearing into it this weekend.
