adjusting rockers
adjusting rockers I have a question on adjusting rockers on my 1996 impala SS, which is better for adjusting rockers while the engine is running or while the engine is not running?
I know how to adjust the rockers while the engine is not running turning the crank by hand, what is the way of adjusting the rockers while the engine is running?

I've done it both ways - either works quite well. The engine running method makes a bit of a mess, though.
Get the engine warm, pop off the valve cover. Start the engine back up and go to the first rocker. Slowly loosen the lock-nut until it starts clattering (its quite obvious). Then tighten the nut until it stops clacking. Go 1/2 - 3/4 turn more. Repeat the process 15 more times.

I've done several methods. I like the engine running method because you can hear the clacking but it can get messy. I took a used valve cover and cut the middle section out of it making adjusting the valves virtually mess free. I always use the EOIC on my solid roller.
With OE Chevy lifters, I'd be more inclined to go 1/2 turn, and for what it's worth, I always adjusted them with the engine fully warmed up and running.
I have seen many people make mistakes with the EOIC method because they are just not savvy enough to know. so if your not sure, do it with the engine running, I do the EOIC method to get the engine up and running and for the final adjustment, I readjust with the engine running, thats just my method, do what ever you feel comfortable..
