How will the cc306 run on stock heads? We are going to get heads soon and I am wondering if the 306 cam will work for a little while.

If you want I could point you in the direction of some decent install guides.

A new "timing set" meaning the Opti? ...or cap a rotor? I am not too familiar with the Opti yet. Do I need to change the Opti too because, that is $300 I did not figure into the budget. I have worked on many older SBCs but have not been into the LT1 yet. I was thinking new cam, springs, pushrods, and 1.6 pro-mag rockers (maybe). Do you guys think I should do lifters too or is it not necessary?

no, new timing set as in a new timing chain and possibly a new sprocket, but not likely. there is no need to change the opti, teh cam will not affect the opti in any way. Depending on the year, you might not need new pushrods. Upgraded lifters is your choice as well, stockers will work just fine, though i would replace with new stockers so the wear pattern on the lifters wont afect the cam profile. New rocker arms is up to you, stock will work just fine as well, but i would definately upgrade the springs.

Oh Yeah, DUHHH. I will replace the timing chain too. And now that you said something about wear pattern on the lifters, I want to do them too. How much do stockers run normally?

How do these prices sound?
cam your looking at 225.99 comp cams
> spring kit p#ENG-983-Comp retainer kit 115.99 comp cams
> pushrods 29.99 comp cams
> lifters stock equipment 219.99 crane
> lifters small base circle 449.99 crane
249.99 for the 7/16 stud rockers
269.99 for the 3/8 stud rockers

How high do you want to rev? I managed to bend my factory hardened pushrods with a bolt on car.

I think the 224/230 starts to drop at around 6K so probably 6K.

the comp lifters are 165 through racenet.net andthey will work perfectly fine. their 1.6 rr's for 3/8ths and 7/16ths studs are 249. The 224 will die at 6300 rpms.
