Default Turbo LT1 - AFR Heads + Boost = Fun

Just had a customer send me a video of his car with the log manifold A/C kit. I'll upload the installed pics he sent me, but here is a few kit pics and the video of a 3rd gear stomp from 3325rpm. Based on his datalog of the pull, it only took 775rpm to go from pedal hitting the floor to 10psi.

Setup:
Stock bottom end with conservative tune
AFR210's
cam (I dont know the specs)
M6 tranny
LT1Boost Log Manfiold hotparts
Procharger twin intercoolers on cold size
VSRacing Billet 78/75
Undersized China 38mm gate... too small as boost creeps from 10-13.5psi toward the end of the run.

Some installed pics. He wanted to use his Procharger twin IC's and cold side from the supercharger setup he had.

Thanks.

The LS1 market is flooded with kits. I can’t compete with a CX Racing kit or On3 kits from a price point perspective… and even Huron Speed as well.

Wow! Very impressive. How long is that stock bottom end going to last you think?

Thanks!

It go 20 miles or 20k miles.., really depends on if it sees detonation. This kit belongs to someone who tuned LTx vehicles, so I suspect it will last awhile.

I'll post them up when he goes. I think the small Procharger twin IC's will be more restrictive then a single FMIC. I am interested to see how this billet VSRacing 7875 does.

I forget how much Brian picked up going from those rinky dink coolers to a big FMIC but it was substantial. That should be on the OP's car short list to do.

agree. He swapped out this kit in replacement of his blower setup, and wanted to reuse the cold side from the blower as much as possible for this year.

forcefed saw a gain of 3.5psi and 6-7mph by swapping to a FMIC with 3" piping.

here's all I'll say on the ls1 market. There is no reasonable priced ls1 kit that has a/c. What you did on this car and keep a/c is exactly what the market needs. The cxracing setup for 500ish forces getting rid of a/c in stock location. that sucks. Everyone with an a/c kit offering forces a new aftermarket kmember. that sucks. You kept the stock kmember, I assume sway bar too and you routed a downpipe. that is awesome. If you can do that on the ls1 side and maybe use some kind of stock manifolds with a vband and keep it around 1000ish you would sell some. my .02

just clone the old ptk kit that cx racing use to have, that only required different fans and that would help. People don't get how much drivability sucks once you take out a lot of the stuff up front that made the car usable. not everyone wants a drag car.

I'm the owner of the car that Jon is posting about. I've been doing the LT1 thing since 1995 and still learn something new everyday about them. This build is on my 1995 TransAm. I've had it since 95 and it was one of the first LT1's to have the ProCharger kit installed. It was in an article way back then for GM High Tech Performance and I think Chevy High Performance while at an event in Memphis. It was later upgraded to the D-1 and went a best of 10.40 ish and about 142 mph. This build is something different. It's an economy build (if there's such a thing!), low mileage block that needed a crank kit. I put an Eagle cast crank kit in it, checked bearing clearance, installed stock/used rods, pistons and rings. I honed the cylinders and checked ring gaps. Installed the "hated" LT4 hot cam and my older set of AFR 210's. I'm running Jon's Log Manifold kit, which is real close in design to what I have on my other car (PT76GTS). I'm just trying to put something together as a building block for a later build. I expect this combo can take 6-10 psi, but after all, I put it together and I'[m rolling the dice. All I really have to loose is the heads! The car has all the supporting mods from the ProCharger setup, TH350, stall, Strange 12 bolt, 3.73 gears, QA1 front/rears, 84 psi injectors and the ProCharger twin A2A intercooler. I hope to eventually build a forged bottom end 383 similar to whats in my Precision Turbo car and crank things up at that point. As Jon mentioned, due to location/ orientation of the waste gate, I'm having to install a 60mm vs. the original attempt with the 38mm. This setup will probably never see the dyno, but I should have weight, ET and Mph at the track shortly for getting a reasonable idea of HP. Just want to add that I was very pleased with the product and customer service provided by Jon! Hope to keep everyone updated.

Does this kit require the radiator to be stood up?

first of all your work looks great would love for you to build me a kit down the road. have you done any tt setups? ive always admired the mirror image twin turbo look . im not sure if there is real world room for it though especially if you went fmic.....so ive been looking at options for a dedicated track car. boost seems to be the way to go these days over max effort na or big shot of n20. for the sake of argument lets assume i have a turbo k member all tubular suspension delete ac manual pinto rack even toyed with the idea of doing mwc cowl delete/get rid of wipers lexan front windscreen etc....tt lt1 seem possible?

Great to see you're still building turbo LT1 cars.

Thanks for the compliment! For TT's, mounting up high (one where CAI goes and one where battery goes) is tough to do unless you ditch the stock accessory bracket and move the alt down low on driver's side.

i have done a couple low mount TT's, pics on my site under the TT section. Kit ditches A/c and front swaybar, but keeps factory accessory bracket and stock k.

Fir or a dedicated track car, dumping the exhaust up front makes things easier.
