Optispark dizzys do a lot of weird things like that, especially early ones without the vent tube. Get moisture in there and they will do strange things for a while before they fail completely. I had a '93 Z28 that acted just like that before the Opti failed.

Sounds more like the ICM is heating up and causing failure

Don't get too excited my friend the problem could still very well be the ICM they can fail especially if a cheap unit was installed..

i would like to agree with the icm theory. get a known good or new icm put on with the spacers as mentioned. i think i used some heat sink compound on the back as well and spaced about 1/2-3/4". is the motor putting off any other codes? im thinking maybe faulty o2 sensors possible? i would be checking the little small inexpensive things before assuming its the opti.

check your fuel pressure. those symptoms are textbook for a fuel pump overheating.

I wanted to say this but he said it was new. We all know NEW stuff can be worse than the old one.

I had a issue similar with one of my other vehicles, turns out there was a break inside the sheath of my CPS wire. When it was cold there was continuity. Drive it for a bit things would get hot/warm and the wire sheath became pliable stretching and breaking continuity. Wait about and hour and it would start right up.

Most auto part stores used to have equipment to test these ignition modules, I know for sure Advance Auto did. When I had my 1994 T/A suddenly one day car would not start, weird since car was running perfectly well the day before, so I took it off and took it to AAP. They tested it, module would get very hot as it does on the vehicle by the 3rd time it was tested, so if their machine said it tested good the 3 times, I would trust it. It did test bad, got a new one from them, installed it and car was running again with no issues.
