Default Delteq northstar coil conversion

While driving the car yesterday, the engine started backfiring and then shut off. I haven't torn apart the opti yet, but I'm 99% sure that the rotor has come apart. I really don't want to waste $500 on a msd opti. I was looking into the Delteq kit because it fits in my "cheap as sh**" category for the car.

I'm looking at the universal kit without the coils, module, and wires. Anyone have any experience with this kit on a universal setup? Part # 1034. Or is there a less expensive way for me to get the northstar coils to work? I'm good with wiring and was thinking about building my own setup but not sure if it's worth the time.

I haven't taken it apart yet. I might this weekend. Honestly its the original opti and I don't feel messing with it again. I've had it apart a couple times to do seals and I'd rather get a better ignition system then spend anymore money on the opti setup

if it's original AC Delco opti and the rotor screws just came out...I would keep it as replacement Optis are a crap shoot now.

Like any distributor the cap & rotor are wear items. MSD makes a good cap & rotor...their opti not so good

alternative options like Delteg or 24x systems are not cheap. Not sure if either requires PCM adjustments, IDK

if this is just a rotor screw that came out...just a few $ worth of gaskets, coolant and loc-tite + your time to fix

Yeah, I'll tear it down later this week and take a look. If it ends up just being a rotor issue, I'll probably end up buying the MSD cap and rotor, coil and wires for a nice tune up.

Default Opti with Hall Sensor

Hi Mike, I manufacture electronic Engine Controls.

My Opti is "un-optized" AND uses a Hall Sensor.

I sell this type item to WorldPac often, with no returns noted.

A fair price of $128.00, either early/late is the same price.

So basically your opti is just used as a pick up signal for ignition timing?

Update: pulled the waterpump and had two pleasant surprises. First surprise was that i can pull the cap off without removing the crank pulley due to the underdrive pulley. Lol. Next, found the rotor just floating around.

I went ahead and ordered the MSD cap and rotor while i have it apart.. Figured i'll just hold off on any major ignition upgrades for now and stick with the opti.

Default Opti Spark with 24XE, 58x, 360

Hi Mike, the "opti" versions both GM and mine determine the position of the Crankshaft.
The PCM determines the outputs to the engine coil(s)/injectors.

What was the cost of the new cap & rotor ?

What brand is your Opti the one in your picture ?

I did not have ANY lick with my Delteq system. After a month of back and forth and new parts I put a New Cap and rotor on my opti and sold all the Delteq off. work was something about my cam profile confused the delteq. It was just a 244/248 .620/.620 110.

The stock opti lasted until I went crank trigger. I was shifting at 7k

I had problems with my car "dieseling" where it runs for a few more seconds after ignition key is shutoff. I upgraded to Bob Bailey's LTCC kit with is similar to Delteq. All my ignition problems went away and I made no changes to the stock optispark.

Some people run the GM 585 coils as they are allegedly hotter. I run the original LS1 coil packs.
