Default Rocked Block

Hi 97Z, I find it ODD that when a Crankcase is filled with cement your builder would NOT state a new piston requirement, the Bores DISTORT after the "fill" cures.
Depending on material used, the "cure" will often REQUIRE a THIRTY DAY period.

I agree with your 2618 "cold slap" concern with a solution of an Offset Pin Placement.

This will add much Knock Resistance, good for boosted engines.

Does your Front Cover have the Crank Sensor in the bottom ?

Lance, BTW Sonic the walls FIRST

Hey Pantera, thanks I'm not sure why he didn't go straight to re-boring the block/new pistons right away maybe he wanted to let it cure and see if a re-hone would have provided the wall clearances needed/wanted.

I will be speaking with him again about using the 2618 pistons and ask about using offset pin placement, do you guys have any particular favorite JE, CP, Ross or DSS when it comes to 2618 pistons?

And yes my timing cover is from a 96-97 LT1 which has the crank position sensor hole at the bottom.

And he is /has sonic checked, magnafluxed, hot tanks the block and will Metalax it once all of the machine work is done.

Matter of fact the crank and rods will be Metalax stress relieved as well.

Do you guys have any recommendations for a turbo cam with .600 + lift that will pull hard to 6400 - 6600 rpm?

Dale,

Once the heads are ported, provide the flow numbers and details of the build to Cam Motion... within a day or two Bill should get back to you with the specs he recommends. If your builder agrees, then just order the cam thru Cam Motion.

Thanks RQ, I'll do that, by the way I'm still waiting on the turbo to arrive so I can send it to you.

Hey Moehorsepower very impressive numbers for only 11# of boost what are the specs on your build, scr, piston type, head flow and did you swap cams when you changed from SC to Turbo?

Also what's the RPM range of your setup and what are your cam specs if you don't mind sharing?

JE, Diamond, Ross....all good. I’ve had both JE and SRP (same company btw) and I don’t notice any piston slap when cold on the JE. SRP is good stuff but the JE will give you a cushion if something goes south.

Don't take this the wrong way, but, sounds like a really great setup... until the On3 junk.

Why not get a PT8847? Or hell a T4 flange S400 variant? Or even an old PT88?

(Assuming its a T4)

I contemplated it, but I simplified it to the 90... if it was a small single gate, I wouldn’t use the 90, but with a JGS 60mm boost control shouldn’t be an issue.

Hey Shownomercy my car is a street car and I'm keeping the A/C, it's not an all out racecar and I don't have the room up front for a Borg Warner size turbo not to mention the price of all of the turbos you mentioned are in the $1400-$3000 range which isn't in the budget at this time.

I have too many things to buy to get the car completed so I will see what it will do with the On3 turbo and once everything is done, up and tuned/running etc, if I run across a deal for a similar sized 88mm turbo I can always upgrade at that time.

All GM products, LT4 heads ported by me, 9.4.1 compression, yes I changed out cams, the SC was 236-244, 612/615 on a 111, Turbo is 236-238, 588-588 on a 114 custom cam by Bullet, max horsepower is at 6100 full boost is in by 3800 with 625 lb ft of torque.

Update on the build, I ordered the On3 88/83mm turbo with the billet compressor wheel on December 30, 2017 and was told the turbo would take 4-6 weeks to arrive so I waited. At the 6 week mark I called for the status of my order and was told it could be another 3-7 weeks so I told them to just send the standard 88/83mm turbo.
So once that arrives I'll be sending it and the turbowerks scavege pump to Real quick so the turbo kit can be finished.
Also I spoke to my engine builder and he had just sent the crank, rods, pistons and bearings off to be dry film and thermal barrier coated then the short block can be assembled. Then he'll flow the AFR heads and do some additional porting, and I still have to get the Nitrous Outlet LT1 boost elbow to work with my Victor E EFI carb style intake.

Moehorsepower the SC cam you had is very similar to what I have 236*/246*, 600/610 113 and once my heads are done I'll have a custom turbo cam made to match.

On a side note are any of you guys using an Eboost2 controller, I'm thinking I'll get one so I can adjust boost by gear since I'm running a 6spd?

The supercharger was nice but I like the turbo a lot better, it was a pain getting all the plumbing correct but once that was done it was great, Boost does not equal Boost, it is a lot different from SC to Turbo, I love the Turbo. Tuning is also different because it is boost vs load and load vs boost.

I have an Eboost street, which I like. Its simple enough for me

The boost by gear is tricky, you are only seeing it as you work up the gears, it won't know when you downshift. At least that is what I remember from when I was looking. It also requires you to mechanically install microswitches to get hit each gear position at shifter.
