I also got sick of loud exhaust and ditched my old Loudmouth/Dynomouth for a quieter setup. The Magnaflow catback I put on made a big difference. I already had Kooks LT's and their catted y-pipe, but it's much quieter at idle and cruise. It still screams at WOT, I'm not sure there's really an effective way to turn that volume down with a cam and headers.

We talking this kind of quality?

Or the ones more in the $70-80 range?

You gotta pay for quality, I'm not saying this is your only option, but I'm saying this is what I'm probably going with. Proven quality.

I wouldn't worry about space either, I plan to put cats on my car this year, and I have plenty of space and my car is slammed to the ground...

Brian,
I agree with the above. Go with quality. Additionally, get the cats that don't have the heat shields. They only add to the physical profile and therefore reduce ground clearance further.

The Kooks cats that tbird31 referenced are very nice. I'm still working on digging up the manufacturer for ARH cats.

The best way to maintain the lifespan of cat converters is to make sure your tune is on point. Dumping unburnt fuel through the exhaust is what leads to premature failure.

Thanks for the link, Not worried with cats. It was more if using a bullet muffler which may interfere with the driveshaft.

Thanks again, buddy.

Yeah when I had a solid roller in the car it would burn extremely rich at first start up. That has been solved since.

If you're over the axle and don't mind running a single pipe, there is a muffler made by Flowtech called the Warlock. Basically straight through when you open the bypass, and when you have it closed it's one of the quietest on the market. Downside is the largest offering is only 3".

Check this out for more detail. http://http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/general-automotive-discussion/43513-muffler-comparison.html

You are on the right track. I would keep the 2OTL and install a cat in the Y pipe right after the cutout. Bullets wont quiet it down much. Sticking with a quality cat will not cost much power, and they cut a lot of rasp without as much drone as a bullet style resonator. Being that you are going over the axle, it should sound great inside the car as well.

Oh, I assumed it was much farther up stream in the passenger floor hump off the Y. Was thinking it would be headers>ORY>Cutout>Cat>2OTL.

Darn lol.

Yeah I'm thinking of getting two and flanging them just off the headers.
Appreciate the feedback, all.
