Clutch recommendation
Hi,
I'm getting ready to do a clutch on my son's '94 T/A and need a recommendation. I'd guess the engine's making about 350-375 hp (ported heads, hotcam, headers). The car is mostly driven around town. The only time the car gets driven hard is once every year or two when he goes to the track. He doesn't want to spend a lot of money on the clutch and also doesn't want a big increase in pedal effort.

I ran a McCleod clutch for awhile with Heads, Cam, Intake, and Exhaust. It broke a spring with less than 10k miles. I replaced it with a Spec Stage/Series 2 and it has been rock solid and hasnt slipped at the track on me yet. Its pricey, but worth it.

Other than the color of the paint...all LT1/4 clutch kits use the same clone PP. Some companies "claim" they make modifications to the PP to increase clamp force ...
Any chain auto part store will carry a basic clutch kit and all will have the same PP. The disc will vary in quality of construction and materials. LUK is a clutch brand often re-packaged/branded with whatever house brand a chain auto store uses
You can find these kits for around $200 and then buy a McLeod DF (dual friction) disc at someplace like Summit for about $175-$200 and not use the disc that came with the auto store clutch
whatever clutch you get, have the FW resurfaced or replaced. Depending on how much is taken of a FW when it is resurfaced you can do that 2-3 times on a stock FW
Competition Clutch did make a 2500 which had a DF disc. IIRC it was around $300, maybe less

LUK from Summit. Pay attention to the TOB being the cheaper one, and have it welded so it doesn't separate on you. Add a Al FW if possible, but make sure you have the new PP/FW assembly balanced to match the stock stuff. I Assumed my FW was balanced but I was greatly mistaken when I found a horrible vibration at 4000rpm. Took everything out again and had it balanced to stock components and all is fine.
At that power level and how rare it will be beat on it would be fine. Hell I plan on making 400rwhp and auto crossing my car.
