Optispark possibly ruined ?
I installed my new opti and I made sure the opti and the cam lined up in the gear behind the opti. I couldnt press the opti in by hand because i felt as if the o rings were too new for me to just slide the opti on the camshaft. I ended up using the bolts to press it on and i did it evenly all around, because it wasnt going on by hand. I have a 1995 Lt1 motor. give me some feedback on wether or not I should take it off and see if i accidentally bent the opti in the back. or should i just say screw and see if itll run fine when the motor is back together in my car.
you should never pull the opti on using the bolts. Yeah the new "O" rings take a little effort to push on and should have been done just by pushing it on. You can lightly oil the "O" rings to help it slide on
I would take it off and confirm you did get it on right

okay im gonna go do that right now. it kinda sucks though because u cant really see the pin go into the opti from the back because once they touch they are pretty much covered up..
IDK what kind of force you used to tighten the bolts, you do. If the bolts went in by finger tight that is OK. If it took a ratchet with some effort to pull the Opti flush...not good.
Yeah you can't see the pin go into the Opti but lining up the opti to whatever location the cam pin is in then just pushing it on is the way to do it by hand.

i got some pics here of it when I took it off. I couldnt tell if any actual damage was done other then the O rings being broken.. so idk right now. I hope i dont have to buy another optispark. Im hoping i can just get some o rings and try it again
Just spin the shaft. If it moves freely and no noise from inside the Opti it should be fine
good you pulled it. It may have been on right in terms of pin lining up with the Opti hole....but that O ring is dead. If it was not lined up right it would not have started
The O rings that come in the $12 front timing cover gasket kit "can" be used....although they are intended for the WP drive spline and WP gear drive spline
You want to use Viton O rings if you try and find other ones
Use some oil on them next time
The O rings don't seal oil, they "stabilize" the Opti shaft in the cam
