Hey guys, this is my first actual forum post other than a greeting and I've got a doozy. I just replaced the plugs im my 94 Firebird Formula with the recommended NGK TR55s, and now have an intermittent, fairly violent backfire from the exhaust at idle. To boot, I think the backfire killed my header gasket as I can now hear what sounds like an exhaust leak from the passenger side. I went over all the plugs and couldn't find anything obviously wrong. Now my question is, is there any way to disable the injectors cylinder by cylinder without disassembling the fuel rails each time? I'm thinking if I can isolate the backfire to a specific cylinder it will be much easier to solve.

 

 

eehack software has this (disable injector x) feature as well

 

That was my first thought, but it looked to me that there were metal retainers that kept the plug end attached unless the fuel rail wasn't sitting on top of it

 

The clip to release the electrical connector is just a push spring. There are also clips holing the inj. to rail which you would not need to touch.

You just push in (pinch) the connector and pull it off.

 

Word of caution, at least this is what happened to me- I was chasing a misfire, unplugged, replugged an injector connector and it would not actuate until the car was shut off and restarted. Not sure if that's just an OBDII thing or....?

 

Careful with those metal clips as you pinch them. I've launched and lost a few over the years. They go flying if you don't squeeze and hold carefully.
