Default Lt1 exhaust

Iv been running long tube headers with 3 inch straight pipes all the way back to 2.5in duals. No muffler, ran no cat for a while but a buddy welded in a cat in the y pipe to pass emissions 1 more time. Now my goal is to quiet the exhaust down. I want to take the cat out and keep the 3 inch straight pipe all the way back but add a quiet muffler. Then upstream after the h pipe add a cutout so I can open it up when I want....got tired of the highway exhaust drone. So what is a good muffler to use? Like I said something quiet.

In for this as well, I really like the Borla setup on the TA I just got. Not too bad inside on highway. But I too would like it even more quite. I dont know of good options besides Walker, or I think Dynomax has a quiet muffler. Or did at one point.

my vote is for magnaflow. they don't alter the natural (awesome) sound of the engine, simply quiet it down. I've heard the muffler on a LS1 f-body and a 4.3 V6 and was surprised at how quiet they were. Still sounded great too. They have a straight-through design, so no baffles to rob horsepower. Win-win. Polished part # is 14267 and satin is 12267 for 3 inch inlet and 2.5 inch outlet.

Well I dont care if it robs power. That's why I'm installing a cutout as well. I love the sound of my resonator h pipe at WOT but I just want it quiet when I'm just driving. So quieter the better honestly. And I'm assuming I'd just buy a Walker muffler and weld it in at the tailpipes?

I’ve known a mess of LS1’s that had straight pipes with magnaflows dumped before the axle and they all sounded good. I would imagine the exhaust note would be just as well on a LT1 if it were used on a full setup.

Try Jones exhaust on Amazon. I am running one on my 97, it’s very similar to a magnaflow, good sounding idle, no drone and sounds nice at WOT. Not to loud not to quiet. Full stainless steel construction as well.

This is the one I’m running, I have it in 3” inlet and 2.75” outlets.
I will post a exhaust clip later so you can hear it.

Its the drone on the highway that gets annoying sometimes. A nice standard Walker muffler would quiet it down nice, and still have a nice tone to it.

But, not sure how you would weld it up unless in stock location. Theres not much room, and straight muffler types dont do what youre looking for. Im unaware of them, im sure there is something out there.

Magnaflow is definitely quiet....I could barely hear my car running, which is why I ditched it. But I wasn’t running headers or y pipe....so I’d bet it will work well for you if you’re wanting to tone it down.

Why not use the stock muffler?

My Setup:
Headers to y-pipe, to hollow single cat, to cutout. With the cutout capped, it runs through the stock muffler setup which tones it down A LOT and still sounds great.

not sure, it came on the car...I didn't know they had different options, but it was a 3" system, 2.5" outlets and had single 3" tips per side and the muffler was relatively small. I will say it was built well and cleaned up nicely but I hated the tips. I have a GMMG now with Corsa clones.
