LT1-LT4 Modifications 1993-97 Gen II Small Block V8

1995 LT1 wont start.

Default 1995 LT1 wont start.

Car has been off the road road for about 4 years. Just installed new opti and water pump and now I cant get it to start. It turns over and tries to catch but wont stay running. Bogs real low at less than 100 rpm for up to a minute or so and then dies and smells extremely rich. Took out the most accessible plugs 1 and 3 they look black and wet.
Spark is good at coil which was also replaced. Gas is new. Is it possible opti was bad from the box?
I'll check for spark at plugs when I get a 2nd person to give me a hand but any other ideas?

Opti was installed wrong. Dowel pin was in circle and not the slot.

Did you test fuel pressure regulator attached to fuel rail . Does it maintain correct pressure with key on ?

So after reinstall on the opti you're good?

After 9hrs of taking everything ack apart and then putting it back together lol, yeah fired up first crank. Without a few searches on here I never would of known it was possible to install it wrong

Yeah, that stupid clover leaf throws some people off but as you found out the one relief is different from the rest.

Yeah. You can see where it slipped into the clover leaf. It went on easy and looked flush but I'm guessing the bottom bolt wasnt. It wrecked the bearing in the new opti which sucked but I took all the internals and cap and rotor from the new one and used the backplate from the old one and worked all good.

I did similar. I never had an opti to go bad when the car was my DD but the bearing in it had gotten rough so I pulled it apart and kept the original Mitsubishi sensor out of it. I still have that sensor. Currently it has a Delco Opti with an Joe blow cap and rotor.

Got to love that good old opti spark. Had to replace mine twice in my 96 Trans Am. Had to learn you get what you pay for.
