Default Cooling System Overhaul LT1

Okay I got a 95 Camaro LT1 with a 6 speed I sit in traffic temps go up to 220-230 but 1 night I was kinda driving fast and it overheated from the radiator it was smoking from the front of the radiator support but it don’t leak no fluid so here’s my plan I want to buy a Brand New Radiator and a New Cap New 180 Thermostat with the housing and the gasket new Cooling fans new coolant tank and replace most of the hoses after I completely drain everything and take out all the old stuff I’m gonna buy 7 gallons of Coolant and bleed the system flush all that nasty fluid out of there so I’m asking will this plan actually work to keep it from overheating and keep the temperature at 195 Firm or am I wrong or missing something?

220-230 is normal for these cars. I wouldn't go replacing all those parts until you do some tests. I would do a very thorough flush until you have clean fluid and then make sure the fans are turning on. Also make sure the thermostat is opening and closing.

Well the car is 20+ years old so I’m just replacing all these parts for piece of mind it’s my daily right now the Heat works great so the Thermostat is working and the heater core is fine no leaks as far as the fans I heard it maybe 1 time but that was it I checked the fuse it’s still good when I put a test light on the fans 1 lights up but the other does not because my AC don’t work but if I replace all this stuff will it stop overheating in traffic

Umm no.... My car has never run that hot EVER. I'd **** a brick if it did! About 210 would be average for a 195 thermostat and healthy system. Currently there's a 160 stat in mine and 185 is as hot as it's ever been. 180 is about average for it.

thats what my car did when it was bone stock when idling in traffic. many other people have reported similarly. my point is OP should test each item before just replacing everything.

no reason to replace anything unless there is gunk in the coolant. If anything, just replace the hoses and be done with it. Is the air dam in place, OP? If not, the car can easily overheat when driving.

If you're content with that, that's you, I would not be, too warm for my taste and I do not believe that's where any healthy LT1 system should be.

And for good reason, at least in stock form when emissions and MPG are taken into consideration.

Factory setting for the fans yes, the temp is still too high to be normal. Higher temps are supposed to aid in burning emissions according to manufacturer, 210 is plenty sufficient for that.

I want my car to run at 180-200 Degress when the fans kick on to maintain a good operating temperature anything above 205 is way too hot for my preference
