Default Cam help...... what else is new?

So I'm building my 96 LT4 corvette into a 383stroker with some spray see build here https://www.instagram.com/silver_surfer_lt4/ I got a set of 195cc heads and ordering the eagle 11:1 forged stroker kit as soon as the motor is out. I am trying to keep compression around 11.0-11.2:1 and stock RPM range and gears. But whats stressing me out the most is cam selection. So I'm hoping to get some input.

Originally I was looking at the comp cam XFI 07-468-8 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-07-468-8 But my engine builder told me its to big with out me re-gearing that he wanted to put in the XFI 07-467-8 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-07-467-8 I know almost nothing of cams. talking to others it ws suggested I get the zz409 cam https://tpis.com/products/6_cam160?v...28342563799112 or even 226/232 .578/.574 110 LSA. – 1900-6200 RPM from http://elliottsportworks.com/?page_id=32 anytime I talk to someone about the Comp cam my engine builder suggested I get "Thats an ok cam" I ask what they reccomend and they just say go with what your engine builder wants to put in. Someone told me with that cam I will be around 400whp with my build. I was shocked at I was shooting for about 50 more without spray. I am pulling out the engine tomorrow and its crunch time and I'm stressing over this. I have no idea what kinda gains between all these cams or how they respond comparatively or if there is something else I should try. Any input would be great.

Thanks

Mainly due to the **** gas here. I'm also trying to keep the stock rpm range. Keeping for longevity and not having to modify the oil system, ignition system ect to much. I was never supposed to build this engine. But I'm having balancing issues after switching to solid flywheel. Figure while it out I might as well do a lil build.

why would you need to modify the oiling system or ignition system?

I have a 396 I built in 2003 that I am still racing today....its been shifted at 6800-7k since it was built....was a mid 9second nitrous huffing daily driver...is now fixing to get turbo fed with the goal of 1000+ HP

I would highly suggest bumping compression to 11.5-12:1 (I normally suggest 12-12.5:1)....I think I saw that you have AFR195 heads....a 23x/24x cam with around .600 lift and a 110lsa will make good power and be easy on valvetrain parts.

Probably won't be going higher one cr. Already having gas issues with stock cr. It's a common issue here and e85 isn't available. 23x/24x cam?

I am referring to duration.....23x as in 230-239...24x as in 240-249

if you are dead set on under 6k RPM drop that by 10* on each side.....but that small a cam is cutting the nuts off a stroker build. I can say this because I have done it. I built mine originally with a 222/228 .544/.538 112lsa cam.....car made 422whp through a t56...was a fun street car but gutless up top. Switched to a 246/254 .613/.590 112lsa....car still had good street manners but pulled for a high as I felt like spinning it. My last street combo was a 242/252 .610/.620 110lsa...that combo was a blast to drive on the street, and ran 10.8@122 at the track on motor.

what gas are you having to run?

Stock redline on the lt4 is 6300rpms. It's my understanding u can't tune higher then that on stock ecu. Maybe I am wrong. I can usually find 91. But the ethanol rating is really high at some stations.

Good to know.. I'd probably be willing to rev to 6500 or 6800. Maybe I should do some more research then.

Spoke to my tuner already he is comfortable with a 6800 redline. I'll call my engine builder and see if we can bump up to 11.5cr 😜

sounds good....If you are looking for much more specific information or help ordering the cam....give Lloyd a shout at elliottsportworks.com and he can help tailor the parts to fit your needs.

What is bore, stroke, rods length, head chamber size, what pistons, pump gas only? Will this be raced more than driven to starbucks or a weekend warrior? What is rear gear, transmission, tire size, converter size? Any weight reduction? What intake? Is block zero decked?
