Default 94 LT1 Optispark Replacement

It has been a long time since I needed to replace the optispark on my 94 Z28.

What are the best options out there now? 10 years ago it was delco with mitsubishi sensor, but with delco quality changing with suppliers is that still the case?

What are the best options to stay with the early spline drive setup? Is there a quality rebuilder? Downtime doesn't matter for me - the car is high on a lift.

Last time I tried parts store versions and they were less than adequate and generated a bunch of rework for me.

What are your suggestions?

AC Delco still seems to be the top in quality when it comes to Optispark units. According to the records for my car when the previous owner bought msd units, those went out within two years. I recommend gapping the spark plugs to 35 instead of stock 55 gap. I have a theory that even with acdelco (me dealing with my own optispark issues too) the large gap would cause a higher chance for the optispark to short itself out.

I also recommend buying an LTCC unit. Still utilizing the eye of the optispark and stock ecm. It basically converts it to coil on plug. Preventing the optispark from frying itself.

If you are not going to convert to some other spark delivery system, Petris has been the name for opti replacement recently.

Petris didn't have any pin drive optis when I needed one so I went with an MSD on my 95. So far so good.

As long as yours is working right, just clean it out and reseal it.

I replaced mine with a reman AC Delco from Rock auto in 2016. Already had to replace it again this year after maybe 6000 miles.
I went the same route but had to return the new one as it was clearly defective.

So, I think the Delcos are as much if a crap shoot as the rest of them now. Next time around I’ll try Petris if I don’t go the full TorqHead route.

Bought a brand new GM OEM Opti from this guy last year and paid a hefty price for it. Still have it and never installed it. He repaired optisparks that had Mitsubishi sensors or replaced optis with mitsubishi sensors when they were available. Couldn't hurt to give this guy a shoutout if he's still around. I actually regret throwing out my old optis back then. Who knew they could be refurbished.

I tried contacting him (I have his phone #) and texted him because I have one of his rebuilds on my 97, as I needed a new one (destroyed a junk chinese on my 95 spinning it to 7000). He didn't respond

It looks like Petris has some in stock again...he's been having supply issues for awhile.

I put a Petris one on my Z28 back in late June and its been perfect. I'm actually doing a 0411 PCM swap next month, so my Opti will end up being nothing more than a cap and rotor shortly, as the PCM swap doesn't need the opti signal.
