Rocker Arm Stud Torque?

Default Rocker Arm Stud Torque?

Question for you experts , i need to install collarless/shoulderless rocker studs and don't understand how you torque them down with no base to torque too??
when I screw the studs in they bottom out in the base of the threads , can you torque a stud down at the bottom or is it gonna cause stress cracks or fractures?? They are iron heads.

I've never done this with rocker studs, but the concept should be the same as head studs. Put them in hand tight, no more. I would use poly locks on the top instead of the crush nut, otherwise you're going to torque those things down when trying to install your rockers.

be very careful to not overtighten, you can crack the cast iron easily. i used this jobber style on a set of vortecs a long time ago when i was on a small budget. ended up costing me more, YMMV.

Two jamb nuts on the top and you can torque them all in the same (if that is what is needed). IDK what the value should be, though (probably very light). Use red loctite.

Ask a machine shop about it.

I have to use collarless studs because when i installed a few of the collared studs the rockers were hitting the base of the stud 'collar" when the lifters where at the bottom of their travel.
collarless studs were what vortec heads originally came with "pressed in" but these are aftermarket vortecs which have threaded openings to receive rocker studs.

I don't think so because it's the stock cam, comp 850 lifters, stock length pushrods at 7.2 , stock rockers
the whole stock valvetrain was set up to use those shoulderless rocker studs unfortunately on the 5.7 vortec.
Didn't have this problem when i built my lt1 obviously. I used 3/8 arp studs on that mild build with the crane 1.6 RR'S and has been smooth as butter for 35k
