Low Maf reading on idle - data logged help

Default Low Maf reading on idle - data logged help

Hey guys,

After some advice, I fitted a cold air intake and a cat back system to my 95 z28 (Lt1)

There has been no tune completed however I've noticed on warm idle with the rpm at 650rpm my Maf reading is between 6.00-7.50 G/S and I get a lumpy idle.

I have tuner pro and have used the ee hack for a robotic automated map but I'm still seeing a low figure.

I'm new to GM tuning and looking for advice.

I have just bought a trick flow elbow to see if this rectifys the issue as the CAI is a cheap ebay one and I'm suspicious of the elbow allowing u metered air passing into the throttle.
When I increase the rpm to 850 and above with the throttle the box is no longer red and I have a better reading.

Does anyone have an suggestions what may be the cause or what may need to be adjusted on tuner pro?

Maf has been cleaned. Checked for unmetered air and cannot see anything.

The car is stock apart from 2 bolt ons cat back and cold air intake.


​​​​​​I appear to be running rich on idle and haven't had the chance to fully data log it yet but I wanted to ask the question before I took it out for a 30 minute drive.

This problem can occur when the honeycomb piece is removed from its upstream position relative to the MAF.

The honeycomb is there to smooth the airflow as the MAF can get confused by air turbulence. I know it looks like it is nothing but a flow reducer, but it serves an important purpose. I believe reinstalling the honeycomb will correct the problem.

This is something the aftermarket intake kit makers don't talk about - how their intakes might screw things up. In my case, I left the honeycomb in place and installed a K&N filter in the stock filter housing. To make sure that enough air could reach the filter, I ran the housing through a band saw to enlarge the opening that admits fresh air.

Is this the honeycomb filter in the MAF itself or is there an additional in the Intake?

It is part of the MAF, and is located just upstream from the element that measures the airflow. You can see it in the attached picture.

It is secured by a circular clip, and is often removed in the name of increasing airflow. Some cars seem to tolerate its removal, others do not.

Ahh I've left mine in.
Thats the cold air setup I have, may not make a difference but the car is in here UK not the states.
