LS1 Performance VS LT1 Performance
Hey guys i got a question, my buddy is getting a CC306 cam on his LT1. He has a 4 in exhaust, BBK Shorty Headers, Underdrive pullies, Cold Ait intake, and some other minor ****. I have a borla exhaust, whisper lid, K&N, Granatelli MAF, and Smooth Bellows. im also a 6 speed and hes an auto, were both on stree tires. In a race who should win? he said hes pusing 450 horse..YA RIGHT, what do u think he should be putting down at the motor and at the wheels. Thanks

well... ive seen guys claiming 350rwhp on stock heads... I would say between 330 and 350rwhp *tuned he would be on the higher end* if your just packing basics I think your going to need a lil more than exhaust and a lid.
btw 450crank is 369rwhp (if he had heads and a tune thats doable) but hes not pushing that now. 400crank..yep. 450...no.

Get a nice header/Ypipe setup and maybe a tune and you'll have him for sure. From a roll you will definitely get him. good race from a dig though, hes got the advantage with auto. stock for stock LS1 has a much better top end pull, LT1 is better down low..but he's cammed so..
just to help this argument out a lil
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48641 (He has since trapped 115mph on stock heads shifting at ~6400 I think...that thread is 2 years old)
That lt1 should be capable of ~110mph traps.. unless we are talking a strong LS1 car your not going to be at an advantage from a roll
headers will just make it about even I think..

Wow, just took my Z for a spin tonight...HOLY !!!!!! This cam is freakin awesome!!! I was holding my own against the LS1 crowd before this.. Now.. I dont even want to talk about it!!!! Woot!!!!
if he's installing a CC306, u dont stand a chance. that cam has mean overlap, which means, his "scavaging" affect will bring his power-band into the highest rpms.. which is where the LS1 "claims" to do the most damage to the LT1s.. with the proper combonation of modified/cleaned stock LT1 heads, severely advanced proper timing and tuning, he could c over 400hp easily.. but, i would strongly advise to upgrade the "weak" GM rear-end to help hold down and push that kinda power..

Not exactly apples to apples a cammed LT1 vs. a LS1 stock cam? Yes the 306 is really aggresive 230I / 244E @ ".050 on a 112 LSA. You could put a smaller cam in an LS1 and beat him. Somewhere around 224 Intake @ ".050 and you would probably beat him...
LS1 heads flow ~245cfm stock *maybe 240 I think its 245 though*...the lt1 heads only flow ~215cfm.. we have a disadvantage right there..if he had say 250cfm flowing heads... that car would be a beast. Slightly ported heads and your going to have your hands full with or without cam. LS1 guys ignore the simple things sometimes. Your engine is "superiour in every single way" but it doesnt take much to balance out your advantages.

There should be a sticky in every forum with a link to an Lt1 vs Ls1 debate to end all debates.

Not shure about the race.....just run him and have fun and be safe. Ok with that out of the way, you should tell your friend he should really look into a stall to take advantage of the rpm he is now going to be able to spin with that cam. I'll let the lt1 guys suggest a good stall for his application. I know lt1's usually use a 2800-3000 stall, but with that cam his power band is prolly gonna be up there so maybe a 3500ish stall would be better and still remain streetable. BTW: if he does get a stall you had better start modding.........
Don't you just love these LT vs. LS debates. I like em. I think the only problem with the LS's are they are just way too expensive to mod right now. I can get a whole rotating assembly for 2800 bucks from Lunati. A LS crank alone is 2k dollars. I just know we can do alot more (effectly/big gains) in mods w/3k than the LS could dream of.

You should have seen my shock when I went from the LT1 parts section of sites to the LS1 ones.

I guess the only *good* thing about the LS1 vs LT1 debates is that it got rid of the LT1 vs L98 ones....
God do I remember and LOATHE those.
