F Body Engine Removal undefinedJ=JUST PURCHASED A 95 FIREBIRD TO GO WITH THE WIFES 95 Z28,MOTOR HAS LOW COMPRESSION IN #5 AND # 7,HEAD GASKET IS NOT BLOWN,COMPRESSION INCREASES WITH OIL IN CYLINDER,PLUS LOTS OF BLOW BY.THINKING OF ENGINE REMOVAL,MY QUESTION IS CAN IT BE REMOVED FROM THE TOP,FACTORY SAYS BOTTOM .I AM A MOPAR MAN BUT THESE F BODY LT1'S ARE CHANGING MY OUTLOOK
I did the same. Next time im going to try the bottom...it just looks to be easier overall. If you dont have the equiptment to do it from the bottom..you can do it from the top but it takes a lot more work I think.

I have pulled my engine out the top four times. Getting ready to do it again. Nice thing about coming out the top is you can leave the Hood,A/C,PS,Brakes and all that little stuff intact PLUS you can move the car around.
I DO pull the trans off the engine first but know people who leave it.
Once it is all loose you come up to the cowl then forward to the radiator support. next you twist the engine 90 degree's then finish coming up and out. Tie every thing off close the hood and push it out of the way

Do you have to pull the motor out to change the motor mounts out? 
I have helped a buddy with his Supra a few times, with an LT1 if you left the trans on, used air tools to take bolts off once their broken by hand tools, I could see getting an LT1 out from the top in about 4-6 hours with 2 people.
