Question Strength of the stock bottom end of an LT1?

How much HP/TQ can the stock bottom end of an LT1 take before it blows in a daily driver situtation?

Crank and rods are good up to 500. The pistons are up in the air....but really I doubt you could reach the motors breaking point NA with that many cubes keeping it "streetable". Definetly boosted but I think your good for any street setup. Good Luck

I agree if its stock corvette which has 4 bolt main. Keep the RPMs under 6200.

Yeah the crank will last up to 550-600hp, but the journals, bearings, pistons, and rods might go..

Some guys are reving lowly b-body motors to 7K even spraying as high as 6800, 4-bolts is to make the uppity Vette crowd FEEL special. THE ONE weakness to the stock setup is the bearings and I think much of that is really due to the 5w-30, M1 being a poor but common choice, before arguing look up some analysis results it just isn't right for this engine. GMPP sells the stock rods as good to 450hp and you know that to sell them like that there is a safety margin and some b-body guys have put more to the ground than that on stock bottoms, at least one guy was running turbo and 650hp on a stock crank, and there is one double power adder car in the 10s with a stock bottom, another with stock heads, crank, rods(and forged pistons) close behind. Even with all these cars pushing the limits of stock pieces bearings are what fail, I think I heard of one rod failure and it was a stock engine. One car is over 400hp NA and then 2 stages 200+80hp, even if the juice displaces 80hp worth of air that is still better than 600hp. You guys do not give anywhere enough credit to the stock pieces. On camaroZ28.com a guy posted about his contact with DART about LT1 heads, they said too small a market and racers are going low 9s on the stock parts, heads of course heavily worked and BIG cams, but stock castings and rotating assemblies, and you guys thing 400 is begining to get high for them .

It's not how much horsepower or torque, It is in what RPM range you are in. RPM is the destructing factor, and how fresh the motor is. I have tuned dozens of BONE STOCK LT1 and LS1 with forced induction. The LT1's make anywhere from 370 to 450 RWHP at 5500 RPM and the LS1 make 450 to 530 RWHP at around 5800 RPM. These cars have been runing around for a couple of years now with no problems...It;s all in the tune and the setup.....

making 500FWHP N/A spinning to 7,000 for over two years.

It is all in how you drive it Before this I was spraying it to over that number and spinning to 6,600.

I would say you can do it but it getts uncomfortable.

I have been spinning this motor past 6,600 since 99

I sprayed mine while shifting at 6500 rpm many times but it didnt like at 106000 miles and the bearings went but this was due to low oil psi so I wonder how much longer it would have lasted

My buddies LT1, scat cast crank, prolly no better than stoock, stock rods with ARP bolts and some basic forged pistons, took a 300 shot for 5 years.

A buddy of mine sprayed a BONE STOCK lt1 motor with a 200 shot for almost 4 years, and the motor still runs.

You guys are way off IMO. I've seen some stock bottom cars in my area in the 550-600 rwhp range. Heads/cam + nitrous

It's all about how many rpms you turn. anything over 65-6600 is not something I would do everyday and at the track I wouldnt spin it past 6800 As for horsepower i dont think your going to see any problems up to 500rwhp, although if it was me i'd keep some money in the bank just in case, "never know when its gonna blow"
