Default Intake Flow Tests

I just got my 1st Gen IV F-body this week. I had several Gen III models many years ago, but I'm not up to speed on the latest stuff. Thought I'd start out with something simple: the induction system...

I've seen a lot of talk about flow testing heads and intake manifolds, but has anyone ever done any bench flow testing on Cold Air and Ram Air kits? There's a lot out there (including homemade) and I really don't see any reason to pick one over the others. Your thoughts?

I think you mean 4th gen.. the Gen IV smallblock GM is the LS2/LS7 and the Gen III SB is the LS1/LS6

All intakes are pretty much the same. One doesn't give much more of a gain over another... choose on looks. At least, that's what I think.

IV mean 4, its romanumerals. It is his first, Generation IV (4) F-body.

Most Coldair kits come with 650 to 750 CFM filters, that'll do up and over 400rwhp. So I think your good. I have a KN cold air tube with a summitt KN 1000cfm filter. You have to fiddle with it to get it to fit in that compartment but is more than enough.

I think this has been covered a few times. Like mentioned it is what you like

I LIKE the looks of the GMPP/SLP unit but have found the the Mororso/Callaway Honker is easier to work with

Thanks everyone! My target (someday) is a 550rwhp autocross setup. I don't want to start off by under-spec'ing the first thing I mod.

I'm not sure what this car has in it already (other than a homemade CAI setup and Magnaflow with turn-downs), but it's already fast and very loud! My next stop is the nearest Dynojet. Gotta love that LT1 rumble!

I would say that the K&N CAI is the best. I had the SLP on for my stock motor. When i went to the 383 i picked up 25 rwhp going to the K&N over the SLP. For a stock internal LT1 they will all be about the same. You should pick up ~19 at the wheels on a stock motor.

I realize what he said. I've never heard somebody refer to a 4th generation f-car as a "Gen IV". When people say "Gen #" it's usually in reference to GM SB v-8s.

Odd I found No Hp Gain between the SLP and the K&N . The filter always fell off the K&N so I won't recomend them

BTW I am only making a little over 400RWHP so maybe I am not using enough filter?

BTW 550RWHP LT is going to take a whole lot of cash and custom work. I am settling in on a 450RWHP version this year till I can finish My 427Ci 18 Degree motor

Listen kid, I don't know what was inserted into your *******, but if you're going to start some **** with me then don't cry about it when I respond. You were an ******* for no reason.

Who's talking about cars? I haven't said one thing about yours. You're hating on me because I'm a mod. Is it jealousy, maybe? Since I've become a member, I've been active and have been contributing to the board a lot. I never claimed to be a technical genious, I'm 19 years old for Christ's sake. I'm a moderator to make sure immature users like you don't start stupid **** like this that gets out of hand here and in the lounge. That's my main purpose- I provide technical information when I can. If you have a further problem with me or my being a moderator, I suggest you either PM me or an administrator.

Back to the original topic of the thread...
