Just needs to detonate once and it'll destroy the pistons. Thats a lot of boost on a stock bottom end which isnt on your side, it could last a year could last a week, but chances are it wont last for ever. Plus side is Lt1s are kinda cheap to rebuild since its a sbc.

I wouldn't recommend running any more than 8 psi on a STOCK engine, let alone one that already has heads and cam.

Like what was said before, all it takes is one little rattle, and your pistons will be paperweights.

I am only running 6 psi on my heads and cam car, and don't really expect it to last long....already starting a pile of new 383 engine parts!

Not to get off the subject, but what causes detonation? Maybe be a stupid question but oh well.

I'm gonna take a crack at this and I'm prolly wrong but from what I understand detonation happends because of to high of a compression ratio (boost ups your c/r) and not high enough octane to keep it under control, I do wonder though without any detonation how long stock lt1 pistons will hold up, for instance if you ran 110 octane or so whenever you went anything over 4 psi (turbo).

back to the supercharger topic, 9lbs. on a stock motor is too much...yeah 8 lbs. is fine but it wont last very long...i have an LT1 on my 93Z and tried a vortec with 8lbs. on my stock motor (with the exception of a cold air intake and an 80series flows muffler) and my motor didnt last 1000mi...haha! had to rebuild that sucker...but nEway, thought that might give u a heads up......find something with 6lbs boost...that might work well. peace!

I thought with the PC intercooler the detonation would be eliminated. I would call ATI. I would think with NGK-TR6's, the intercooler, 93 octane, and maybe a couple degrees retard that the stock bottom would live.

You can run as much boost as you want as long as you dump in enough fuel. But like Bizatch said, all it takes is one instance of detonation... stock hyper pistons are weak as **** when it comes to forced induction.
