Why do you guys keep holding on to your lt1s?

I love my $2,200 95 Formula, 69k on the clock. The LT1 engine just sounds soo much meaner. To me an engine sound is as important as looks and performance. I dont care if you have a 10 second Civic it still isnt going to sound as good as a stock LT1. I'm currently working on an LE2 setup for my Formula. I dont think any LS1 could sound as good as an LT1 with a 109 lsa cam through a 3" x pipe.
I think they definately feel more like an animal. Theres nothing like making a left turn and taking up both lanes with your car. The mean roar of the engine, the smoke pouring from the tires, banging through the gears. It just feel much more raw than the LS1.

If you do a search over on CZ28.com, theres a couple good threads in advanced tech about this. Late Model Engineering (LME) here in Houston has done a set of Darts for a 415CID LT1.

There is a speed shop in Doraville, Georgia that has machined several Canfield heads for to work with the reverse cooling of the LT1. There is a guy on LT1tech (Godspeedz) that runs these heads on his 383 solid roller LT1 M6 and puts down 506 RWHP

Wait till Joe Overtons new set up comes out, I just honestly wish we had a more cost effective source of converterd SBC heads, I always hear about 23* headed Pro Actions flowing 325+ CFM, that would really bridge the gap in performance between our LT1s and these LS1s. I see a lot of potential in the SBC 23* head segment, just so much R&D.

Yeah, a lot of machine shops will do it now. CFM in Indianapolis quoted me like $300 to do any set of heads...SB2.2, Buick 10s, 18*, whatever.
I predict this will become a VERY popular modification in the next year or so. I talked to several companies @ PRI (Brodix, World, Dart) and they either had little interest or "were still in the planning stages" of making reverse cooling heads. If the companies won't do it for us, then it's up to the consumers to make it work. Fits my "Why buy it when you can build it" way of thinking.
The biggest hang-up will be getting an intake manifold to match the vastly different ports. I'm getting a set of All-Pro 220's to put on a twin turbo 3rd gen car later this year. I need to ask Bob @ AP if they've got any plans for reverse cooling. With what they've got coming out for the LS-motors in '05, hopefully he will. Look up the numbers on their heads, you'll be amazed. Then find the price on them and wipe up the crap that dribbles down your leg.

Just for comparison, AP's new LSx casting will cost at least $500 less than AFRs 225s.
