Coating does add HP cause it cuts down the turbulance and keeps the headers at a more even and lower temp. And it just helps pretect them from rain and condensation

sorry kooks, if you would have been a little quicker on the draw you would have had my business. i looked everywhere for stainless steel headers. slp midlengths were the closest and i would never buy anything from there.

Is this a guarantee on your headers Nick? I'm looking for some headers and a y-pipe right now, and I'd like a stainless set up, however, I wasnt a stainless y-pipe too. Does anyone know of a stainless catted y-pipe that would hook up to a pair of kooks?

They say the coating adds horsepower because they're cooler, cuts down on turbulence, blah blah. I bought the ceramic coating and I think it's bullshit. Mine's already rusting off. I'm not unhappy with my Hooker header selection--that's not what I'm saying. I should have just bought the uncoated ones and a couple cans of 1500 degree Duplicolor.

From our experience, ceramic coatings will eventually wear out though there are coatings now that will last longer, they are really expensive. Jet Hot has their "Jet Hot 2000" process that we, on occasion use on our turbo headers. This process adhere's well to stainless unlike standard ceramic coatings. All this brings me to why 304 stainless is the best material to use. It will never rust, wear resistance is far superior, and stainless simply makes more power. Oh and BTW, 1500 degree paint may last a few hours on headers. Nick "Kook's Headers"

So Nick someone asked about a "guarantee" on the headers. Are u guys guaranteeing them? Or is there to much to deal with with a guarantee like that?

sure you can...get a cam that has a decent LSA though...114-116...check out cmotorsports.com for great cam info...

As for headers...I would have gone with pace setters if they had been out when i was picking up a set of headers...any header is going to be a pita to install on an LT1...there's simply no room. Since there is simply no room...in my opinion ceramic coating, or stainliess headers are a must...othersie under the hood temps will be outrageous.

As for kook's...if i wasn't a poor college kid, i'd consider it...haha

I got Jet-Hots because my friend had them and I was pleased with what I saw, and he was happy with them. Install will be a nightmare no matter what, IMO. The only way I would consider otherwise is if I witnessed an install that wasn't. Kooks are nice, but I didn't have 800 to drop on headers when I was looking. I hear good things about pacesetters, but the general concensus on ALL headers, is that the emissions hookups are hit or miss. Mine on the Jet-Hot had an issue, some dont. Good luck.

You will want a cam with a low duration and a 114+ LSA to help prevent overlap. The object is to open the valves as high but as quick as possible. Keeping the valves open too long will bleed off air pressure. Overlap will sap boost as well by blowing some out the exhaust valve.

I have jet hots with the black jet hot highest coating they provide...hopefully this coating works better than their sterling silver cuz that rusted with no winter seen...but they did recoat em for free just like their guarantee says there were no questions asked just recoated them and said the reason I had flaking was because the headers got waaaayyy hot so upgraded me to the igher coating which is the jet hot 2000... I f I had the money though i would sell em for some stainless kooks

Nick @ Kooks is correct, headers are a very important part of any car that is wanting to take full advantage of there hp. Plus Kooks is the only header company to bring a stepped header to the LT1 market. In my opinion Anthony, if you are going with a decent amount of boost you will notice alot more gain from the Kooks stepped header than any others. Whe are a very lage stocking dealer for Kooks, and have the LT1 headers in stock. Call or PM me for the best price. I promise it is well worth a few extra dollars!!

The stainless is probably the way to go and the high heat paint will probably flake off but the paint is cheaper than the stainless and the ceramic coating in my opinion. LOL

Chris, what size headers do you use right now, the straight 1 7/8" headmans? At what point do you think you need the 1 7/8" and when would you need to step to 2" or go to full 2"?

I had Hooker LT's on the car and then put on a set of AS&M's and made more power.
I liked the Hookers, but on the dyno I gained 10rwhp with the AS&M's.
