I've dealt with the opti before, getting it timed back and everything. I did a cam swap over the summer and got it timed back just fine, it ran and I drove it. Problem was I had an oil leak so I'm tearing back into it, and the opti is off. Now that the opti is back on, my damn car won't fire. I was under the impression that if that crank never moved, then the opti would never be out of time. Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I put new injectors in a while back without changing the tune and never ran the car. That wouldn't be causing my no fire would it??
Being a 94, You have a timing shaft that turns the opti w/ teeth on both sides. On those teeth you have a master spline on both sides. If forced it is possible to get the shaft positioned in the wrong place, which you have more than likely done. You need to go back through and check it, this time dont install the waterpump untill you know for sure that the Opti is alligned properly. You can start the car w/ out the water pump, just dont run it long!
As far as the opti being set to the cam, I dont have a clue what your talking about! You cant adjust the time in the opti, It has to be through the PCM programing!
Oh, and by looking at your Sig, please tell me that the time was on motor not the squeeze!

Well by the opti being out of time, I meant having the ignition timed. I should have said, "If the crankshaft never moved, then my ignition timing should never be off." I know I got the slot lined up, but I did think of something later. While I was fooling around with the balancer (that's another story), I might have turned the engine slightly without realizing it or meaning to. I'm gonna try retiming the whole thing this time. BTW, that time was on the juice but there's also the factor of a really SHITTY tune I had at the time, a smaller 224/230 cam, and limited traction--I spun through 1st and 2nd gears. At least I'm honest, no sense in lying about the time. I should be good for high 6's in the 1/8 this summer.

ALL HAIL LT1's
Check out the last page of my cardomain, Im also looking for 6's!
I dont guess I understand what your doing here, but it doesnt matter If the crank moves or not. Your timing will be sync'd w/ the opti as long as you have the two master splines on the shaft alligned properly.
Oh, what size injectors did you upgrade 2?
To better clarify the opti:
You have the opti which uses light as reference, example: such as a cd player optical eye. Im sure youve taken one apart before, but if not, you have a wheel on the inside of the opti case that is turned by the timing gear. That wheel sets just between the 2 optical eyes. On that wheel you have one section of only 8 slots, thats the reference of what cylinder is firing! Another section has 360 slots. The 360 slots are for accurate timing at high rpms. You have Low Resolution and High Resolution. Low res, the opti controls rpms idle upward of 2200 or so and the high res kicks in to redline. I hope this gives you a better Idea of the functions of an opti. There are no adjustments in our optis to change timing. It is all controlled through the PCM tuning. On the other hand you will need to get the PCM tuned for the bigger injectors. By changing your injectors you just changed your entire AFR accross the board. Your running rich, which could be another issue on your start up.

I went to a smaller injector. I went from 42.5# to 30#. I have a tune for the 30#s but I really didn't think that could be causing the no start. I will fool with my computer after I get it running again. I really thought I could just replace the seals on the opti, bolt it back on and be ready to rock as long as I didn't move the position of the crankshaft. Tomorrow, I'm gonna time it again (slot at 9:00 position with #1 at TDC). That should fire it. If not, damn thing might be bad. I just really thought it shouldn't be outta time.

Finally got the damn thing to start. Don't pull off the opti if you don't have to! I had to make sure the slot was at 9:00 on the compression stroke. After that, it fired right up.

I'm confused I still dont understand the whole timing the slot on TDC. Dont know about the later model opti's though. If you have the old style all you needed to do was line the splines on the shaft.
Good to hear you found the problem though!
